Following is a fabulous DIY Silk Tie Easter Eggs craft and guest post
shared by frugal friend Beverly Ann… enjoy!

Easter is one of my favorite holidays…. with the promise of spring in the air!

I love giving my nieces and nephews an Easter basket and packing it full of goodies! The night before, they will spend the night with me so that we can color eggs that the Easter Bunny will hide.

I was very skeptical of the method I chose but, I needed to be “ALL IN” or  “ALL OUT”.

I went to the local Salvation Army Resale Store and the Goodwill Resale Shop to find what I needed…. and sure enough, they had a LOT of the old, abandoned silk ties.

They had to be 100% silk. I bought them from $0.25 to $1.50.  Once home, we began the process of making these DIY Silk Tie Easter Eggs…

    • Secure tie with string or bag ties with the good side of the tie against the egg.
    • Once they are all done, place them gently in a pot, just cover with gently boiling water and about 1/4 cup of white vinegar. Let them boil for 15 min to 30 min.
    • Remove them from the boiling process and let them cool off. LEAVE them in the tie.
    • Once cool, untie the string and take the egg out. Discard the tie and string and !Voila!  Beautiful eggs!

These eggs turn out so vivid and colorful with some amazing patterns!

HI, I tried to do the silk wrapped eggs with new pieces of silk I got from the fabric store. Tried 4 different material pieces. None worked. My husband wouldn’t part with any of his ties, so I bought new material.. Why didn’t this work?

Your instructions say cool your hard boiled eggs before wrapping in the ties. Then it says boil them 15-30 minutes in the vinegar water. If you’re cooking eggs that long they’re not going to be good for eating. Also I saw no tips for perfect hard boiled eggs.

Hi Grace ~ correct… these tie-died eggs are definitely better for decorating, not eating. 😉 Here’s a link to tips for perfect hard boiled eggs:
