So so good! I added a can of corn and it can out so good! There are only two of us so I halved the recipe, but I should have made the whole recipe so we could have leftovers.
Heidi says
I’m so glad you loved it, Jennifer… and that sounds like a delicious addition!
Chris says
Could I use frozen pilsbury biscuits.?
Heidi says
Hi Chris,
This recipe works best with the refrigerated biscuits.
Katie says
I made this for a dinner and it was delicious! Not so much a hit with the kids, we’re in Massachusetts and I don’t think they really understand the whole Southern thing…but oh man, the adults ate this right up! I’m going to cut the recipe in half and make it for dinner for my family of 3 tonight. I left out the bacon and onions because my husband and I aren’t fans of one or both, but it still came out fab! Thank you!
Heidi says
I’m so glad to hear you liked it, Katie! 🙂
Karen says
Making this today. I’ve made many chicken and dumplings. From scratch to one that uses round flour tortillas cut in strips instead of biscuits. All are good. None as good a my Aunts. Then comes the bacon.. I added peas and not a drop left.
Thank you so much., It’s a hit!
Heidi says
I’m so glad to hear you loved it, Karen… the bacon is definitely a game changer! 🙂
Elizabeth Swihart says
I tweaked it a bit & my fiancée had 2 full bowls!!!
First, I doubled the recipe, but used 2 cans of cream of mushroom in addition to the 2 cans of cream of chicken. I used milk in addition to chicken broth. I chopped & added celery & sauteed the onion & some garlic with already cooked bacon bits. I think I put it in the stratosphere by adding a package of sausage gravy mix instead of flour. I started by spreading some on parchment paper, then took each individual biscuit and put the powdered mix on them & rolled them out with a rolling pin before cutting with a pizza cutter. I was also lazy in that I used 4 big cans of chicken so it didn’t have to cook so long. One hour on high, 2 on low, then put in 2 8oz containers of sliced mushrooms. As soon as it came to boil again, I began adding the pieces of dough. Turned back to low for an hour & stirred frequently.
Shelly says
Can you use frozen chicken breasts?
Bobbiejo says
I would like to know the same thing…..Can you use frozen chicken and just cook longer?
Cindy says
I use frozen every time and it works out great just check it for doneness and if needed add a little more time to cook
Donna says
I just made your crock pot chicken and dumplings. I work a lot of hours and it was a super simple recipe. I liked the flavor but I think next time I will use a little more broth and add some herbs. Thank you for posting it.
Ellen says
Hi! The total time says 4 hours 10 minutes but in the description it says cook on low for 6 hours and high for 1 hour. Which is it?
Heidi says
Hi Ellen ~ the total time of 4 hours and 10 minutes is stating the time if cooked on High: 10 minutes Prep + 3 hours on High + 1 hour after the biscuits are added.
If cooking on Low for the initial portion… your total time will be 7 hours and 10 minutes: 10 minutes Prep + 6 hours on Low + 1 hour after the biscuits are added.
Hope that helps!
Fay says
Could I use crescent rolls cut up in this recipe? Thanks!
Bobbiejo Doucet says
NOOOOOOO! I wanted to know the same thing – so I tried this with crescent rolls and trust me when I say it was NOT good. The dogs loved it so it was not a total lost. It leaves a very bad after taste. Just don’t do it.
Courtney says
How would you go about making this recipe more soupy but with the same amount of flavor?
Amanda says
Do you have to use the flaky biscuits or can you use the regular ones? Our meal in the crockpot right now, but I just noticed the picture has the flaky biscuits.
Bev says
I make this all the time. No you don’t have to use flaky biscuits. I use the grands buttery biscuits. Family loves it!
Misty M. says
I plan on making this over the weekend, will turkey bacon work as an alternative? And thanks for this recipe!
Sarah says
I just made this tonight. We love it!!
Heidi says
So glad you loved it, Sarah! Isn’t it simple and SO yummy? 😉
Erin says
I make this but I use homemade bisquick to make the biscuits instead of the Pillsbury biscuits
Heidi says
Ooh ~ that sounds delicious too, Erin!
Vicki L. Stevenson says
I noticed the picture showed flaky biscuits. You said to cut up in 8 pieces. Now do you cut the whole biscuit or separate then cut ?
Heidi says
Hi Vicki ~ after opening the container of biscuits, first separate them apart. Then you’ll cut each individual biscuit into 8 pieces. Hope that helps!
Barb says
Can you add frozen peas & carrots or will that throw the recipe off its ratio
Heidi says
Hi Barb ~ I honestly haven’t tried, but if you do… let me know how it turns out! That sounds like a delicious addition!
Angela says
I put a bag of frozen vegetables (corn peas and carrots) And I added 4 cups of chicken broth and pepper. It’s AMAZING. I opted out of bacon because I was too lazy to cook it
Heidi says
Ooh ~ that sounds so yummy, Angela!
Gina says
Hi I was wondering how many people this serves and can I double the recipe in a 6 quart crackpot
Heidi says
Hi Gina ~ it serves approximately 8. I’m not sure how doubling it in a 6 quart crockpot would work… I used a 5 quart and it was pretty full. If doubling, I might try a 7 quart or use two 4 quarts. If you try doubling it in a 6 though, let me know how it goes!
Lea says
This was my first crock pot meal!! It turned out amazing. Thanks so much for sharing this.
Heidi says
You’re very welcome, Lea… so glad you loved it! 🙂

Can you add carrots or peas and, if so, when should I add them?
Heidi says
Hi Shelly ~ I honestly haven’t tried adding carrots or peas to this recipe, but if you do… let me know how it turns out!
Kristen says
Does this recipe do well as leftovers?
Heidi says
Hi Kristen ~ I honestly don’t know… I have a hungry hubby and two teenage boys, so there are never any leftovers. 😉 If you make it and have leftovers, let me know how that goes!
Jeannine says
Hi Ladies,
Wondering how many this recipe serves?
Heidi says
Hi Jeannine ~ it serves approximately 8. Enjoy!
Jenn says
This was so easy to make an my husband an 2 kids loved it so I doubled the batch thinking I would have leftovers for lunch I was wrong it is a well loved dish in my house. Could you turn it on low an cook it?
Heidi says
Hi Jenn ~ I’m so glad your family loved it! If cooking on LOW, try 7 – 8 hours total time, or until the chicken is done. Every Crockpot cooks a little differently, so you’ll just want to keep an eye on it near the end. 🙂
Corimsu says
My sister made this the other day and it’s so yummy I had to have the recipe, and tell you it was so good the entire pot was devoured! Thank you!
Heidi says
