I have a few questions re your Buttermilk Ranch Dressing Mix Recipe {Copycat Hidden Valley} / https://thefrugalgirls.com/2015/09/buttermilk-ranch-dressing-mix-recipe.html:
NOTE: I’M NOT A COOK. I’M A TYPICAL MALE AND NOT VERY GOOD IN THE KITCHEN..

    1) the recipe calls for various measuring spoons of condiments. I assume those measurements are LEVEL measuring spoons NOT mounted. Correct?

    2) the recipe calls for milk. No one in my household drinks regular milk. We drink either lactate-free or almond or silk. Can I substitute one of those that we drink for regular milk?

    3) Can I use regular buttermilk in place of buttermilk powder and regular milk? Would I lose some of the flavoring if I did?

    Thank you.

    Bill

    1. Heidi says:

Hi Bill… for the Buttermilk Ranch Dressing Mix, you will want to use leveled measuring spoons of ingredients.

If making the ranch dressing with milk, nut milks like almond milk or silk will change the flavor, but you can definitely substitute with traditional lactose-free milk. Just note: the lactose-free milk is naturally slightly sweeter than regular milk.

The buttermilk powder is a very important ingredient if you’ll be using the ranch mix as a seasoning packet substitute in other types of recipes.

In regards to using regular buttermilk rather than the buttermilk powder + regular milk, the consistency and flavor will definitely be altered. Hope that helps! 🙂
