  • Apple Cider Vinegar – This will add the sour.
  • Sugar – This will add the sweet.
  • Pineapple Juice – This will add outrageous flavor… and is the perfect blend of both sweet and sour!
  • Corn Starch – To thicken up the sauce.
  • Paprika – To add a little flavor and a lot of pretty color. No weird food coloring needed here!

How to Make Sweet and Sour Sauce

So are you wondering… how do you make sweet and sour?

The answer: with as little effort as possible! Trust me, preparing sweet and sour sauces without ketchup has never been so EASY!

Here’s what you’ll do…

1. Combine the Corn Starch and Pineapple Juice, and stir into a white paste.

2. In a saucepan, heat the rest of your ingredients, then stir in the white Corn Starch/Pineapple Juice paste.

3. Continue cooking as directed until done… and ENJOY!

4. This recipe will yield about 1 1/4 cups, or if you’re making sweet and sour chicken… enough for about 4 large chicken breast.

That’s it. Just a few simple steps and you’re done!

Variations

Want to change things up? Go for it!

To make your sweet and sour asian sauce thicker, simply use more corn starch. To make it thinner, use less corn starch.

If you want to make the color more red, simply stir in small amounts of paprika until you achieve the desired color you want.

Pork – To prepare pork chops with this sauce, simply smother your cooked pork chops with this pork sweet and sour sauce for a delicious dinner, then serve topped with optional pineapple tidbits.

Ingredients 

  • 3/4 cup Granulated Sugar, (white sugar)
  • 1/4 cup Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 2 tbsp Corn Starch
  • 1/4 cup Pineapple Juice
  • 1/2 tsp Paprika
  • 3/4 cup Hot Water

Instructions 

  • Gather your ingredients.

  • In a small mixing bowl, combine the Pineapple Juice and Corn Starch, and whisk into a creamy white paste. Then set aside.
    Whisk with pineapple juice in bowl, making sweet and sour sauce.
  • In a medium saucepan, bring the Water, Vinegar, and Sugar to a boil over medium-high heat, then whisk until the sugar dissolves.
    Whisk with pineapple juice and cornstarch in bowl, making sweet and sour sauce.
  • Reduce heat to low, then gradually whisk in the Pineapple Juice/Cornstarch mixture.
  • Raise heat to medium, while continuing to whisk, and let the sauce thicken.
  • Sprinkle sauce with 1/2 tsp. Paprika, and whisk until well combined.
    Whisk with sweet and sour sauce in pan.
  • Transfer to a dish and ENJOY!
