French Toast Bread

There are so many delicious options for bread that you can use to customize this recipe.

To start, I love making a more classic version of this recipe by using sourdough sandwich bread or my homemade honey wheat bread.

Then, using a thick cut brioche bread, a challah bread for French Toast… and of course, Texas toast are also great options.

Seriously, can you imagine how good this will be as a challah or sourdough French Toast… or even a brioche French Toast?

French Toast Toppings

Adding some fun toppings is where things really start to get fun. And when it comes to tasty toppings… the sky is the limit!

To start, one of my favorite ways to serve French toast is to simply top it with some powdered sugar. To make it ultra decadent, I like to add some amazing flavored butters like this Cinnamon Sugar Butter, or this Cinnamon Honey Butter, and of course this amazing Maple Butter.

Then, to transform this French Toast recipe into one of the most spectacular breakfast recipes for kids, I like to add some delightful whipped cream and syrup. I suggest this Maple Syrup Recipe, some fresh strawberry syrup or even some fresh raspberry syrup.

You can even give it a fresh, fruity flair with some sliced bananas, sliced strawberries, blueberries or raspberries.

Variations

Want to change things up a bit? Go for it!

Here are a few of my favorite tasty variations…

French Toast Sticks

  • Slice your bread into strips before cooking, and then cook as usual.

Pumpkin Spice French Toast

Eggnog French Toast

  • Swap the 1 cup of Whole Milk with 1 cup of Eggnog.

How to Keep French Toast Warm

This simple little trick works like a charm!

Once you’ve cooked some of your French Toast (and are waiting for the rest to finish cooking) you can keep the cooked slices warm by placing them on a cookie sheet in the oven at 200 degrees.

How to Freeze French Toast

Want to prep ahead for later? It’s such a cinch! This recipe for French toast freezes beautifully!

Once everything has cooled completely, simply transfer to a gallon sized freezer bag or freezer safe glass container, and freeze up to 2 months.

It can be thawed overnight in the refrigerator or microwaved, then toasted back up again in the toaster or on a skillet.

What To Serve With French Toast

When making this or other easy brunch recipes on a weekday or weekend, don’t forget to add some perfect savory sides to serve alongside your French Toast.

If serving at brunch, consider serving up some savory bacon wrapped smokies or these sweet and tangy grape jelly lil smokies.

Then, don’t forget the eggs, bacon and hash browns! These heavenly cheese hashbrown casserole add hash brown perfection to any breakfast!
