Ingredients
It takes just a few simple ingredients to make the BEST Barbecue Baked Beans!
Add the following to your next grocery list to make sure you’ve got everything on hand…
- Baked Beans – We’ll be using Canned Beans
- Crispy Bacon – See How to Bake Bacon in the Oven
- Barbecue Sauce – I like to use Sweet Baby Ray’s
- Ranch Dressing Mix – or Homemade Ranch Dressing Mix
- White Onion – Diced
- Brown Sugar – See How to Keep Brown Sugar Soft
- Butter – Salted or Unsalted Butter will both work
You’ll also need a 5 – 6 quart Dutch Oven or a 4 – 6 quart Crock Pot to get the job done.

How to Make Baked Beans in a Dutch Oven
These beans are so easy to make in a dutch oven!
Here’s what you’ll do…
1. Preheat your 5 – 6 quart dutch oven.
2. Sauté your diced onions in melted butter.
3. Once your onions are soft and translucent, add all remaining ingredients and stir until well combined.
4. Then just cook as specified.
Now sit back, relax, and ENJOY your delicious side dish!

How to Make Baked Beans in a Crockpot
Would you rather make up some Baked Beans in your Slow Cooker? It’s so easy, too!
Here’s what you’ll do…
1. Add ALL of your ingredients to a 4 quart crockpot, and stir until well combined.
2. Then cover your crockpot with its lid, and cook on HIGH for 4 hours or LOW for 8 hours, stirring occasionally.
It doesn’t get much easier than that!
If you’re having a party, you can even change the temperature to ‘Warm’ after the beans have finished cooking, and let party guests dish themselves up straight from the slow cooker.
I’ve done that before, and this tasty side was such a hit with my guests!

How to Store Baked Beans
Whether you want to prep these ahead of time, or just store your leftovers, these baked beens freeze beautifully, making them one of my favorite make-ahead Easy Meal Prep Ideas!
Allow your cooked beans to cool, then transfer to freezer friendly bags and place in your freezer.
When ready to serve, simply place your bag of frozen beans in the refrigerator, allowing them to thaw.
Then microwave in a microwave-safe bowl, or reheat on the stove in a pot over medium-low heat, stirring often.

Baked Beans Recipe

Ingredients
- 55 oz. Bush’s Best Original Baked Beans (1 large can)
- 1 pound Bacon (16 oz.), cooked until Crispy, then chopped or crumbled (see tips for perfect crispy bacon!)
- Sweet Baby Ray’s Barbecue Sauce (18 oz. bottle)
- 1 cup Light Brown Sugar, packed
- 1 oz.Hidden Valley Ranch Seasoning Packet or 3 Tbsp Buttermilk Ranch Dressing Mix
- 1 cup diced White Onion
- 2 Tbsp Butter
Instructions
- Preheat 5-6 quart Dutch Oven on stove at Medium heat.
- After dutch oven has warmed up, add Butter.
- Once Butter has melted, add Onions, and saute' until Onions become translucent (clear) in appearance (approx. 5 - 6 minutes)
- Then add Beans, Cooked Bacon, Barbecue Sauce, Brown Sugar, and Ranch Seasoning, and stir until well combined.
- Cook for additional 20 minutes or until done, stirring occasionally.
- For Slow Cooker Baked Beans, simply add all ingredients to slow cooker, stir well, cover with lid, and cook on HIGH for 4 hours, or LOW for 8 hours.

- Prep Ahead / Leftover Tip: To make this ahead of time or to store leftovers, the cooked beans can be frozen in freezer friendly bags. When ready to serve, just place the frozen beans in the refrigerator to allow them to thaw, then microwave them in a microwave-safe bowl or reheat over medium-low heat in a pot on the stove.
