  1. Kat says:

    Hi Heidi~

I have 9 bone in, skin on drumsticks and 5 bone in skin on thighs, can I cook all at the same time with skin up and layering them? Also, how long should I cook for, if doing both? I have the BBQ sauce, but can I use the Hidden Valley DIPS packets in ranch? This is what I have one hand so if I don’t have to go out that’s be a plus.

I want to make this today and look forward to you response. 🙂

    Kat

    1. Heidi says:

Hi Kat ~ yes… the Dips packet will work just fine. I honestly haven’t tried layering that many pieces of chicken, while also mixing drumsticks with thighs. If I have that many pieces I usually just cook in 2 crock pots side by side. If cooking together like that, you’ll definitely need to keep an eye on the time and may need to extend it until all pieces are fully cooked. If you try it… let me know how it goes! 😉

  2. Donna says:

Wow, made this for dinner tonight. It was delicious and so so easy to make. Winner winner chicken dinner. LOL. Thanks for the recipe.

    1. Heidi says:

Aww ~ thanks so much for the sweet comment, Donna! So glad you enjoyed it! 🙂

  3. Aimee says:

When you put the chicken in the croc pot, do you add water to it?

    1. Heidi says:

Hi Aimee ~ no water is necessary, as the chicken will end up cooking in its own juices that it releases. Hope that helps! 🙂

  4. Bridgett says:

How about frozen chicken? Same time?

    1. Robin says:

I have cooked frozen chicken in slow cooker recipes on low for 8 hours while I am at work, and it works perfectly! Not this particular recipe though.

  5. nicole says:

I made this in the oven in a baking dish with drumsticks and it was so good!! (I put the sauce on the chicken when it was almost done then flipped them and added the rest of the sauce so it wouldn’t burn) Thanks for the post! Never would of thought to mix those 2 ingredients 🙂 Soo good!!

    1. Heidi says:

Aww ~ you’re very welcome, Nicole! Isn’t so simple and yummy? So glad you liked the drumsticks, and that it turned out great in the oven, too! 🙂

  6. Yuisa says:

Hi, Can I use actual ranch salad dressing instead of the packet?

    1. Heidi says:

Hi Yuisa ~ unfortunately using ranch salad dressing won’t work the same in this recipe. The dry packet is more of a seasoning blend that mixes deliciously with the BBQ sauce. Hope that helps!

  7. Velma Siemens says:

Is this recipe for only one layer of drumsticks? The pictures seem to indicate one layer.

    1. Heidi says:

Hi Velma ~ I typically cook the drumsticks in my 6 – 7 quart oval crockpots, so I can fit most in one layer. Sometimes I’ll stack a few on the top as a second layer, but most fit on the bottom. If stacking more on the top, you’ll just need to keep an eye on the chicken legs and may need to lengthen the cook time a bit. Enjoy!

  8. Tori says:

Is there a specific reason you suggest Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ sauce?

    1. Heidi says:

Hi Tori ~ Sweet Baby Ray’s is by far my favorite BBQ sauce, and pairs so nicely with the ranch mix for a powerful punch of flavor. 🙂

  9. Maria says:

How long should I cook it if I put it on low?

    1. Heidi says:

Hi Maria ~ if cooking on LOW, I typically double the time. So 6 hours on Low, drain juices, then add the sauce for an extra hour, or until done. All slow cookers cook slightly differently, so just keep an eye on it. Hope that helps!

  10. issamar says:

Is it okay If i use sweet and spicy BBQ sauce

    1. Heidi says:

Hi Issamar ~ I haven’t tried the Sweet & Spicy in this particular recipe, but if you do… let me know how it turns out! 😉

      1. Erika says:

Do u use a whole bottle of bbq??

        1. Heidi says:

Hi Erika ~ yes… you’ll use the entire bottle. ENJOY! 🙂
