- 4 thin sliced or flattened Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast
- 12 ounces French’s Dijon Mustard (1 bottle)
- 3/4 cup Honey
- 1/2 cup Avocado Oil (or Canola or Vegetable oil)
Combine the 3 marinade ingredients in a mixing bowl, then transfer the marinade mixture + your chicken breast to a gallon sized freezer bag.
Place the bag in the refrigerator to marinate for 4-6 hours or overnight, turning and flipping several times.
When ready for dinner, remove the chicken from the bag, toss the marinade out, and get ready to grill or bake your chicken.
Grilled Honey Mustard Chicken
Grill your pre-marinated chicken on the grill outside. (8 minutes on each side at 400 degrees or until internal temperature of your chicken is 165 degrees.)
*Note: To flatten your chicken breast to an even thickness for grilling, simply place it between two large pieces of plastic wrap. Then using the flat side of a meat mallet or tenderizer, gently pound your chicken breast flat, starting in the middle.
Be sure to make up some Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce to send it over the top!
Baked Honey Mustard Chicken
Or bake your pre-marinated chicken in the oven for a delicious baked honey mustard chicken! Just bake the chicken in a 9×13 casserole dish at 350 degrees for 50 – 55 minutes, or until done.
Want extra sauce for dipping your grilled or baked chicken? Be sure to make up some of this fabulous Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce!
Not ready to cook your pre-marinated honey mustard chicken yet? After adding the chicken and marinade to a gallon sized freezer bag, place the bag directly in the freezer for some pre-marinated chicken that you can cook up later! Prior to cooking, just pull it out of the freezer to allow the chicken to thaw in the fridge. This will allow all of the yummy flavors to soak into the chicken.

Justin Sam says
Can I sear the chicken first?
Heidi says
Hi Justin ~ yes, you could if you would like to, however that will alter the cook time.
Jessie Winn says
I just made this recipe for the first time. put chicken with white rice and green beans to finish the meal. my boyfriend said he will be no good at work tonight because he ate so much, my 12 year old son said it’s “bussing” which he said means really good. it was so good. the chicken was juicy and so tasty. Thank you so much!!!!
Heidi says
Aww… thank you so much for the sweet review, Jessie! I’m so glad to hear everyone loved the Honey Mustard Chicken!!
Jen says
I fully understand now why I shouldn’t have used coarse ground Dijon mustard! The flavor was excellent and the chicken was perfect but the texture was awful. Going to try it again with regular Dijon for sure! Great recipe! Cook time was perfect.
Heidi says
Haha… I’m so glad you liked the flavor, Jen… and yes, you definitely want to stay away from coarse ground mustard in this recipe. 🙂
Teresa says
Can the chicken breast be frozen when you add them or do they have to be thawed?
Heidi says
Hi Teresa ~ you’ll use thawed chicken breasts for this recipe. ENJOY!
Beth says
I’m really looking forward to trying this.
Instead of waiting until the end to add the honey and mustard, do you think I could put it in at the beginning and let it cook with the chicken the entire time?
Heidi says
Hi Beth ~ you can add the sauce at the beginning, but the taste and end result will be very different.
If you drain the juices and add the sauce near the end, you’ll end up with a much thicker more tasty sauce. Hope that helps!
Emily says
Do you have to drain the chicken?
Heidi says
Hi Emily ~ draining the juices will ensure you have a thicker more flavorful sauce and end result. 🙂 Hope that helps!
Margaret E Wright says
I’m all alone after loosing my husband last year. Do you have any recipes for 1or 2 people? Everything looks very good.
Thanks!
Tracy says
I also was wondering on the size of chicken breast you should use ?
Heidi says
Hi Tracy, I typically use 4 large boneless skinless chicken breasts. If using smaller pieces, just shorten the time a bit. Hope that helps! 😉
Tracy says
This was delish!! And so easy! I will be trying more of your recipes, thank you.
Heidi says
You’re very welcome… so glad you liked it!
Judy says
Hi. Do I cook the chicken in the crockpot with or without water???
I’m totally new to the crockpot thank you for your help.
Heidi says
Hi Judy ~ no water is necessary. The chicken will end up cooking in its own juices. Hope that helps! 😉
