#1. Tuesdays after 12:00pm are the Best Time to Shop TJ Maxx! (Tip from a TJ Maxx Employee)
So what are the best TJ Maxx hours to score deals? The best TJ Maxx Discount Day is Tuesday!
Frugal friend Tina writes: “I worked there for 6 years. Every other Tuesday is markdown day so Tuesdays after 12:00pm are the best times to shop, and end of July + end of January are our final clearance.”
#2. Find Something You LOVE, But Want A Different Color? Or More Than One? (Try This!)
TJ Maxx deals can be AMAZING, but the in-store stock on hand can really vary wildly.
Thankfully, this simple little trick can save the day! If you’ve found something you love but want another color, or a second one to take home… check TJMaxx.com for more stock!
Then… if you can’t find what you’re looking for there, hop on over to Marshalls.com to check their site as well!
For example… awhile ago, I found the CUTEST Tommy Bahama skorts at my local Marshalls store for $20 (originally $80).
They only had one in my size, but I really wanted to pick up a few more for my daily walks, so I headed to Marshalls online. Unfortunately there weren’t any available at Marshalls.com.
Then I haded to TJMaxx.com, and SCORE! They had my size and color in stock for the same price!
It’s such a simple little trick that can save you the time and hassle of having to check nearby stores, or check again next week.
#3. Always Ask for a TJ Maxx Discount on Damaged Merchandise
Do you have your eye on some furniture but notice it’s scratched?
Ask the manager for a discount! It never hurts to ask… and you just may be able to score an extra 10% off or more if the manager approves it!
I’ve even seen people score 20% off just for asking! 🙂
#4. Higher Volume Stores Can Have Significantly Better TJ Maxx Deals!
C.J. writes: “Location and store volume can help save money when shopping in retail stores like TJ Maxx. In my area the high volume TJ Maxx in a college town has better selection and better clearance items than the low volume one in the strip mall”
Just remember… things can come and go quickly at TJ Maxx, and rotating merchandise is all part of the thrill. But that means if you love it and just can’t live without it, you’ll want to grab it.
There’s no guarantee it will still be there the next time you head to TJ’s.
#5. Wait for January and July for the Biggest TJ Maxx Sales! (Tip from a TJ Maxx Manager)
A store manager recently told me that TJ Maxx does inventory in January, while also clearing out their remaining holiday and seasonal merchandise.
As a bonus, she said you’ll also see HUGE TJ Maxx in store and online discounts as they do a big push to make room for new Spring merchandise. It’s true… the TJ Maxx clearance racks are packed, and I’ve stocked up and scored so many ridiculous deals in January!
This is such a great time to load up on TJ Maxx Men’s and Women’s Shoes Clearance!
Then be sure to head back to TJ Maxx in July to score more fantastic TJ Maxx clearance deals as they clear out their remaining Spring & Summer merchandise.

#6. Head to the Back Racks to Shop the TJ Maxx Clearance Clothing Racks FIRST!
Before you start walking up and down the endless rows of trendy TJ Maxx clothing… make sure to hit the clearance racks first.
It’s here where you’ll really maximize your savings and find the biggest bang for your buck!
Gale writes: “I recently bought a beautiful Ann Klein dress at TJ Maxx for $12. I will be wearing it to a major family event. I am so glad I took a second look at the clearance rack.”
Then Walk the Back Walls & Perimeter of the Store for More Out-of-Sight TJ Maxx Clearance!
In addition to designated clearance aisles for home and kitchen merchandise… don’t forget to walk the perimeter of the store, too.
I’ve found so many additional make-shift racks of clearance items squeezed into the strangest little places along the back and side walls.
You just never know where your next great treasure might be lurking! 🙂
#7. Know The Difference Between Red TJ Maxx Sale Tags & Yellow TJ Max Clearance Tags!
Here’s what you need to know before you shop at TJ Maxx…
- White tags = Regular store price
- Red tags = Clearance
- Yellow tags = Final clearance markdowns
- Yellow tags on top of Yellow tags = Final clearance that has been marked down AGAIN with an even deeper discount!
You’ll typically find the most yellow tags during the January and July TJ Maxx clearance sales, but you still may stumble across some other times of the year.
Just remember… if you find a rare yellow tag and you love the item, now is the time to grab it before it’s gone!
#8. Reach to the BACK of the Purse Racks for the Best Designer TJ Maxx Handbags Attached to the Wall With a Cord!
Another simple little trick when you’re on the purse and handbag aisle, is to always reach to the very back and check for bags attached to the fixture with a long cord.
You just may score and find some of the highest quality bags hiding back there… like Kate Spade, Michael Kors, etc.
They’re hard to spot, but definitely worth the extra effort!
Patti writes: “TJ Maxx is one of my favorite places to shop for brand names at excellent prices!”
#9. Drive Further to a Store with ‘TJ Maxx Runway’!
I’ve found that if you’re on the hunt for the best deals on high end designer labels, you may want to consider driving a little further to a TJ Maxx Runway Store. Especially if that TJ Maxx near to me doesn’t have one.
I’ve scored so many fantastic deals on quality items at my local store here in Scottsdale.
Just check the TJ Maxx Store Locator, and scroll down the list, looking for locations with a little ‘R’ next to them.
#10. Skip the Small Perfumes, and Score Outrageous TJ Maxx Deals on Full Size Fragrances!
There’s nothing I love more than a dreamy new perfume… but the department store prices can be a bit much sometimes.
$100? No thank you.
So the trick is to just a wait a year or two until your favorite new department store fragrances start showing up at TJ Maxx! Then… look for the full-size bottles (3 oz. or larger) to score the very best deal!
You can often save up to 70% with this trick!
TJ’s also has a great selection of men’s colognes, so you can score some sweet deals on gifts for your boyfriend or hubby, too! They make such great Stocking Stuffers for Men!
#11. Get Deep TJ Maxx Discounts on High-End Beauty Products! (Even Some You’d See at Sephora!)
Skip the salon and pamper yourself at home with your favorite high-end beauty products from TJ Maxx! They’ve got such a wide variety of name brand clothing items for a fraction of the cost.
Check back often, though… inventory comes and goes.
So if you see something you love, grab it.

If you’ll be shopping online, be sure to sign up for the their email list first at TJMaxx.com.
New email subscribers will get a one-time FREE shipping offer!

Thanks to the last-chance merchandise, end-of-season clearance, and just some all-around ridiculously good deals… you can score some incredible bargains for your furry four-legged friends at TJ Maxx!
Here’s what your frugal friend had to say…
Karen writes: “TJ Maxx and Homegoods have tons of pet stuff cheap! Toys, shampoo, treats, beds.”

#16. Use TJ Maxx Online Coupon Codes!
But before you check out online… always check for any current TJ Maxx Online Coupon Codes you can use to save even more.
These will often be advertised at the top of the page on the TJ Maxx website.
For example, I spotted a code for Free TJ Maxx Shipping on your order just the other day! So it definitely pays to take a minute to check!

Awesome tips, Heidi! I visit Marshalls/Winners almost weekly and I’ll have to keep these tips in mind. You’re absolutely right about them having great deals of fragrances. I remember purchasing a full sized perfume during Christmas time at a beauty boutique, only to find it half priced at Winners a few weeks later. Thanks for sharing!
