How to Dry Thyme Leaves in the Microwave
Would you like to dry your Thyme leaves in the microwave? It’s SO simple!
Here’s what you’ll do…
1. Place 1 paper towel flat on your plate.
2. Lay out Thyme sprigs in a single layer on the paper towel, then add another paper towel on top.
3. Microwave 1 minute and 30 seconds, then in 15 second increments until dry. (Mine are usually dried out and ready after a total of 2 minutes and 15 seconds.)
If you have a larger bundle of thyme sprigs you are microwaving, you may need to add a little extra time.
4. After leaves are dry and crunchy, remove and discard stems.
5. Then using thumb and forefinger, crush dried thyme leaves by pinching and rubbing together.
6. Transfer your dried thyme to a small spice jar, and you’re done!
Mini Mason Jars work great, or you could even use your old spice containers.
Wasn’t that a cinch?
How to Air Dry Thyme
As an alternative, you can also hang dry thyme as well! It works just as well… you’ll just need to wait a little longer for the results.
Here’s what you’ll do…
Begin with clean, dry thyme.
Take a bundle of stalks and turn them upside down.
Using a rubber band or clothes pin, affix them somewhere in your home where they can slowly hang dry upside down.
Depending on the humidity in your air, you should have perfect, naturally dried thyme in about 2 – 3 weeks.
Once thyme is completely dry, simply run your thumb and forefinger along each stem and branch to remove the dried leaves.
Discard the stem and branches, and transfer leaves to a small glass spice jar or mini mason jar, and store in a cool, dry, dark cupboard.
How easy is that?!?
