Can A Baby Eat Green Beans?

My babies were able to eat green beans as soon as they were ready for other solid foods, at around 6 – 7 months of age.

If you are unsure of exactly when to start your own baby on solid foods, I recommend asking your pediatrician.

Can I Use Frozen Green Beans For Baby Food?

Yes you can.

In fact, I used frozen green beans prepared in the Instant Pot to make this homemade green bean baby food.

How Do You Puree Green Beans For Babies?

For this recipe I used a blender to puree the green beans.

I transferred the cooked green beans from the pressure cooker to my blender.  Then I used the blender to blend/pulse the green beans to the desired consistency.

Course: Sides
Cuisine: American
Keyword: baby food, green beans
Servings: 2 cups or Eight 2 oz. Servings

Ingredients

  • 14 oz. Bag Frozen Green Beans
  • 2 cups Water

Instructions

  • Place frozen beans in the bottom of Instant Pot, and pour 1 cup water over beans.
  • Select Pressure Cook, Low, and change time to 4 minutes.
  • Preheating will begin 10 seconds after settings are selected.
  • Once beans are done, do a quick release for the pressure {I like to do a gradual quick release to avoid any messy splatters... basically a quick release of steam in a few gradual nudges}.
  • Now transfer your cooked beans to your blender, and discard any excess liquid in the instant pot.
  • Pour remaining 1 cup water over beans in blender, and blend or pulse {stirring as necessary}, until you reach your desired consistency.  For an even smoother puree, simply add more water 1 tbsp. at a time.
  • Transfer Green Bean Puree to OXO Tot Baby Blocks, pop on the lids, and store in Refrigerator or Freezer.
  • When baby is ready to eat, pull one out at a time and allow it to come to room temperature prior to feeding Baby.

Notes

  • It will take around 15 minutes for your Instant Pot to initially reach pressure before cooking begins.
  • In the refrigerator, store up to 3 days.
  • In the freezer, store up to 3 months.

Wasn’t that so EASY? Now you can stock the fridge and freezer with healthy food for Baby!

Tips for Making Baby Food from Your Frugal Friends:

Paulette said: “I found it was so much more cost efficient to make my own. Plus, I knew there was no additives, just wholesome goodness. I mashed up large quantities of a single fruit or vegetable and froze. No spices or sugars added, let the palate learn the natural taste. One new food per week so could check for allergies.”

Heidi said: ” I made food for both of my boys…never bought baby food.”

Michele writes: “My girls are 16 & 18 now. I did make all their baby food. I got fresh veggies from relatives that had gardens.”

Its such a good idea to make your own. I know my mum and dad used to puree what they were having to give me rather than the pre-made jars. Think this is something I would do in the future (if I have children), because at least you know what they are eating!

    Thanks for sharing!
