Strawberry Angel Food Cake

Ingredients
- 16 ounce Betty Crocker Angel Food Cake Mix box (make sure to use the 'just add water' variety)
- 21 ounces Strawberry Pie Filling can
- Optional: Cool Whip for Topping
Instructions
- Gather your ingredients.

- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Add powder cake mix and pie filling to large mixing bowl, and stir together with large spoon or wooden spoon.
- Then pour mixture into 9×13 ungreased ceramic baking dish. (Do NOT grease pan.)

- Bake for for 28 – 33 minutes, or until golden brown on top.

- After baking, it is completely normal for your cake to fall in the middle as it cools.

- Optional: To avoid the cake falling a bit in the middle as it cools, you can immediately turn upside down to cool... I use handy dandy loaf pans as support. 😉
- The dump cake will be a dense and delicious treat... perfect topped with whip cream and sprinkles!

Does it freeze well?
Hi Jeri ~ this particular cake doesn’t really freeze well, and is best if enjoyed right away. 🙂
Can I make this in a Pyrex 9 x 13 glass baking dish or does it have to be Ceramic? I can’t wait to try this. It looks delicious!!
Hi Peggy ~ I think it should work fine in a glass pan, but you may want to bake at 325 degrees. Hope that helps! 🙂
I made this in a glass 9×13 pan (dish) per the instructions and did have to increase the cook time by about 12 minutes-but note that was at 350 degrees-forgot that it’s recommended to reduce temp for glass.
It was perfect.
Can you mix this with an electric mixer and put in a tube pan? Would it then bake up like a regular angel food cake?
Hi Evelyn ~ I honestly haven’t ever tried it that way, but if you do… let me know how it turns out! 🙂
Did the tube pan work out well?
Hi! My family and I love all things strawberry! Cant wait to try this out. is it possible to use pound cake mix instead of angel food?
I honestly haven’t ever tried it that way, Jen… but if you do, let me know how it turns out!
Would I be able to use cherry pie filling instead of strawberry?
Hi Nancy… yes, you can definitely swap out the strawberry pie filling for cherry pie filling if you’d like to change up the flavor. ENJOY! 🙂
I have lots of eggs to use. Can I do this with homemade angel food cake?
Hi Meg ~ I’ve honestly never tried this with homemade angel food cake, but if you do… let me know it turns out!
Do you mix the cake mix and strawberries with a spoon or an electric mixer? Does it make a difference? And does it remove easily from the dish?
Hi Terri ~ you will mix the ingredients with a large spoon, preferable a wooden spoon. It is a little sticky, but removes from the dish just fine with a nylon turner/spatula. Hope that helps! 🙂
This sounds like one delicious cake idea that is easy, simple and no fuss in the kitchen! I am totally craving cake for some reason so this would hit the spot!
Oh yes… it will definitely satisfy those cake cravings, Christie! It’s such a light and delicious treat! 🙂
Do i add the water or no?
Hi there,
You will not add any water… just the powdered cake mix and the pie filling. 🙂
Made the cake tonight to have tomorrow after dinner and it looks so good I just want to dig in!
