How to Add Volume to Hair

So are you wondering How to Add Volume to Hair? Whether you’ve always had thin or flat hair, or you’ve recently noticed your hair has been thinning… these simple little tips work like a charm!

Every year, I’ve noticed my hair getting a little thinner. Have you noticed that, too?

That’s why I’ve made it a point to learn how to add volume to thin hair!

And guess what. It’s SO much easier than you think!

As we age, we may not get all of that thick luscious hair back, but we certainly don’t have to settle for flat, limp hair either. Right?

So are you ready to pamper those locks and perfect adding volume to your hair?

Here’s what you need to do to make thin hair look fuller…

#1: Give Yourself a Scalp Massage While Watching TV!

Did you know that massaging and stimulating your scalp can actually encourage hair growth? It really can… and it feels AMAZING, too!

So the next time you go get all cozy on the couch to watch your favorite show or fun movie, grab a scalp massager!

Then take several minutes to treat yourself to a luxurious scalp massage as your movie plays. It’s such a treat.

OR… have your significant other give you a scalp massage with this amazing tool, and get ready for some feel-good tingles!

#2: Use a Scalp Massager in the Shower

Another way to massage and stimulate your scalp is by using a scalp massager in the shower every time you shampoo your hair!

I know they look a little crazy, but they feel AMAZING!

The flexible, rubber nodules do a fantastic job of massaging your scalp.

I like to apply my shampoo, then use this tool in a circular motion all over my scalp before washing out my shampoo.

It’s the next best thing to that luxurious scalp massage we all love getting at the salon!

#3: Dry Your Hair Upside Down (or Opposite Direction)

Another simple to trick is to simply flip your hair upside down when you’re drying it.

When you flip it back up, you won’t believe how much volume you’ve just added to your gorgeous locks!

And there’s no need to stay upside down the entire time you’re drying your hair… I like to do this for at least the last minute or two of drying my hair. Give it a try tomorrow… you’ll be amazed!

Or alternatively, you can simply section off portions of your hair and dry them in the opposite direction that your hair naturally falls for a quick volume boost!

#4: Use a Teaser Brush When Styling

Would you like to add more volume to a specific part of your thin or flat hair? Teaser brushes are the best secret styling tool to keep on hand!

Simply pull your hair forward, tease several times from behind, flip your hair back, and enjoy the instant boost of volume!

#5: Add Volume with Texture Spray!

Another secret tool to keep on hand is Texture Spray!

Texture spray is basically a dry, weightless, finishing spray used to add volume to your style. I seriously LOVE the results!

If you haven’t tried it yet, you definitely need to!

#6: Add Layers to Your Hairstyle

The next time you head to the salon, you can also consider asking for some layers to be added to your hairstyle.

Even just a few face framing layers can instantly add loads of volume to your hair!

#7: Curl Your Hair to Add Volume

In addition to adding layers to your current hairstyle, taking the time to curl your hair will also add some beautiful bounce and volume to your style!

#8: Add Lift with Dry Shampoo

Don’t forget the dry shampoo! In between washes, the oils around your scalp can begin to weigh your hair down, making it appear thinner and flatter.

One of the easiest tricks to counteract this is to reach for your dry shampoo!

Simply apply it to your roots, work it in, and add some instant lift and volume to those roots!

#9: Stop Plucking Those Grays!

Have those ‘shimmering blondes’ started taking over your hair like they have mine?

Well… it’s time to stop plucking all those grays! Oh I know it’s tempting, but before you know it you’ve pulled out waaaaay too many hairs!

If you’ve got one or two crazy ones, sure… but just don’t go crazy! 🙂

#10: Slow Yourself Down

Finally… take a deep breath, relax, and do whatever you can do to decrease any stress in your life.

It may seem off the topic, but really, it isn’t.

Did you know stress can actually trigger hair loss and thinning? Yikes!

After a really stressful time in my life last year, my hair started falling out. And it wasn’t just a little, it was a LOT.

Thankfully after a few months of pretty scary amounts of hair falling out, it has stopped and is starting to grow back in.

Now I know we can’t always avoid those crazy stressful situations. Trust me, I know. But the faster we can calm down the better.

That’s why it’s so important to slow yourself down.

Even your hair will thank you!
