Trick #1: Conceal Your Grays with a Quick Spray of Root Touch-Up!

Person holding a container of TRESemme root touchup.

Now if you haven’t tried this before, you NEED to. Trust me, the TRESemmé’ Root Touch-up Spray is pretty much magical!

All you need to do is give your gray roots a quick spray, gently work it in with your fingers or a brush, and your grays will vanish until the next time you wash your hair.

How easy is that?!?

Trick #2: Hide Your Gray Roots with Eyeshadow!

Container of LA Colors matte eye shadow.

Are you wondering How to Cover Gray Roots with Eye Shadow?

It’s actually really easy!

What You’ll Need:

  • Eyeshadow in a shade similar to your hair color
  • Blonde Hair? Try a Light Beige eyeshadow.
  • Brown Hair? Try a Brown eyeshadow in a shade similar to your color.
  • Black Hair? Use a Black eyeshadow.

What You’ll Do:

  1. Simply brush some eyeshadow along your part and on to your roots using an Eyeshadow Brush. As a bonus, if you brush a little onto your scalp as well, it can even help your hair look thicker!
  2. Continue to lightly brush and work it in until you see your gray roots start to vanish.
  3. Reapply as needed.

Trick #3: Brush On Some Cocoa Powder Dry Shampoo!

This simple little hack will work best for brunettes.

Simply apply your DIY Dry Shampoo with Cocoa Powder using a blush brush to dull down the shimmers on the grays along your root line.

Trick #4: Cover Your Gray Roots with a Root Concealer Wand!

I’m also a big fan of the Mineral Fusion Root Concealer Wand!

I first found this at my local Sprouts. Oh I know, I know, I was there for groceries, but the makeup aisle has such a strong magnetic pull every time I’m there! 🙂

Basically, this nifty little wand has two sides… a mascara type wand for strands, and a small lip gloss style pad for roots.

It’s quick & easy to use, and will wash out with your next shampoo.

Trick #5: Or in a Pinch, Cover Them Up with Mascara!

Another easy trick is to learn How to Cover Gray Roots with Mascara!

Burt\'s Bees brown mascara.

Again, this tip works best for Brunettes with various shades of brown or even black hair.

And trust me… it works great, and SO fast!

Now just like the eyeshadow trick or concealer wand, this will only work until you wash your hair, but in a pinch, it’s one of my favorite tricks!

What You’ll Need:

  • Brown, Black Brown, or Black Mascara (depending on your hair color)

What You’ll Do:

  1. Carefully brush on brown mascara at your roots, and watch them disappear in seconds!
  2. As strange as it may sound, I’ve been using this trick for years, and it works like a charm!

Trick #6: Change Your Hairstyle & Hide Your Hairline!

Three hair coverings.

Another simple trick is just simply… change up your hairstyle for the day. This works amazingly well at hiding those pesky grays! There are so many fun hairstyles to cover gray roots!

If you have gray along your temples, maybe try pulling your hair back down into a Low Loose Ponytail to hide your gray roots.

You can even curl your hair to add extra bounce to your ponytail, and add a cute bow just above your ponytail to draw attention away from the grays.

Or if you have a lot of gray along your headline, just wear a Headband to cover gray roots at your forehead.

You can also try distracting the eye with pretty hair clips and textured braids that add depth and dimension. Just get creative, play around with your hairstyle for a few minutes, and find a sneaky way to mask those gray roots.

No one will ever know!

Trick: #7: And If You’re Out of Time, Just Wear a Hat!

Baseball cap with text \"Roxy.\"

Don’t underestimate the power of a hat!

You can hide those grays immediately when you just throw on a cute hat or baseball cap!

Bonus Tip: If You’ve Got More Time… Do a Root Touch Up at Home!

Box of Revlon root erase.

In between colorings, I love to use Root Touch Up! It’s so easy to work with, and does an AMAZING job at hiding those gray hairs in between my full hair colorings!

Plus, since you’ll only be coloring your roots, it helps to prevent unnecessary damage to the rest of your hair! Win win!

Just make sure to get your own professional-style Hair Dye Brush Set. You can use them over and over, and they’re SO much bigger and nicer to work with than the itty bitty brushes that come in the root touch up set boxes.
