How to Clean Your Diamond Ring at Home! {Secret to Make it Sparkle}

February 9, 2020 By Heidi 34 Comments

You won’t believe how gorgeous your ring will look after you try this easy trick for How to Clean Your Diamond Ring at Home!

Got a diamond ring? Have you cleaned it lately?? You’re going to LOVE this easy trick from my jeweler for how to clean your diamond ring at home and make it sparkle!

After all these years, I still adore my diamond engagement ring. I’ll never forget that day when my sweet hubby proposed, and how that gorgeous ring seemed to just sparkle in the light with every twist and turn.

Well guess what… this simple cleaning hack will make your ring sparkle just as bright as it did that first day you put it on your finger! I mean come on… they’re a girl’s best friend, right? So let’s show our pretty stones some love, shall we?

So are you ready to make your ring shine? It’s time for another easy Homemade Cleaner hack!

Here’s the secret to keeping your diamond sparkling…

How to Clean Your Diamond Ring

What Can I Use to Clean My Diamond Ring?

You’ll just need these 4 items to make your ring dazzling again…

  • Blue Dawn Dish Soap
  • Warm Water
  • Soft Bristle Toothbrush
  • Small Jar or Glass

Why Should I Use Blue Dawn?

It’s simple… the blue Dawn is just more powerful at cutting through grease and gunk, while also being gentler on your jewelry. Any orange or lemon varieties may contain citric acid, which can be harsher on certain metals.

How to Clean Your Diamond Ring:

  1. Add approx. 10 drops of Dawn Dish Soap to a small glass or jar, then fill with warm {not hot} water.
  2. Remove your ring, and gently place it in the jar, and allow to soak for 15 minutes. {This will help loosen up the dirt and grime}
  3. Are you wondering how do you clean under a diamond ring? That’s where the toothbrush comes in!
  4. After 15 minutes, remove your ring from the water, and brush gently with a soft-bristled toothbrush. Make sure to scrub well around the prongs that hold your diamond in place. Also be sure to scrub the bottom of the diamond where the light will hit and bounce off of it.
  5. After scrubbing with a toothbrush, gently rinse your ring with water {making sure a sink stopper is in place to cover the drain}
  6. Allow your ring to air dry for at least 15 minutes, and you’re done! So how easy was that? Now watch your pretty ring sparkle!

Can You Clean Your Diamond Ring Too Much?

Now if you’re wondering how often should I clean my diamond ring, well… I like to clean mine at least once or twice a month. Diamonds are extremely strong and sturdy, and can handle a good regular cleaning. Plus… who wants a ring full of gunk and germs on their hand? Eeks! So go on and work it into your schedule… it will hardly take any time, and you can multitask while it soaks. Plus… the sparkly bling factor when you’re done is always an added bonus!

What Your Frugal Friends Are Saying About This Diamond Jewelry Cleaner Hack:

Suzana writes: “That’s a GREAT trick! My jeweler told me to do that, too.”

Dee writes: “I recently did this with my sterling silver that I wear daily. They came out nice.”

Gregg writes: “Yes! Also consider do not use baking soda… it is an abrasive. I have 9.5 years experience as a bench jeweler…use either Dawn, ammonia (lemon helps the smell), and even window cleaner… lightly brush with a toothbrush then rinse with water. You can use compressed air to remove anything embedded.”

One More Jewelry Cleaning Tip from a Jeweler…

Deb writes: “My father had a jewelry store for over 30 years. Always cleaned jewelry with a solution of Mr Clean. You can soak rings, necklaces, earrings and bracelets in this and use a baby tooth brush to get out the stubborn stuff.”
