What Can You Put in a Lotion Bar?

You’ll just need the following simple ingredients to make your natural lotion bars:

  • Shea Butter
  • Coconut Oil
  • Beeswax Pellets
  • Essential Oils for scent {optional}

How Do You Make Bar Lotion?

Homemade lotion bars are so EASY to make! You’ll simply melt equal parts Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, and Beeswax, then add optional essential oils. Pour into molds, allow to harden, and you’re done!

Easy Homemade Lotion Bar Recipe

Lotion Bar Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Shea Butter
  • 1 cup Coconut Oil
  • and 1 cup Beeswax Pellets
  • Optional: 25 drops Essential Oils for a light scent {like Lavender, Jasmine, etc.}
  • Makes approx. 8 lotion bars {using 3.5 oz. – 4 oz. Silicone Molds}, or more if using smaller molds

Silicone Lotion Bar Molds

How to Make Lotion Bars:

  1. Add Shea Butter, Coconut Oil and Beeswax Pellets to a 4-cup microwave safe glass measuring cup {or microwave safe glass mixing bowl}, and microwave for 1 minute, remove from microwave and stir.
  2. Then continue microwaving in 30 second increments, stirring after each time until all ingredients have melted. {it usually takes me about 3 minutes total}
  3. Once all ingredients have completely melted, give it a quick stir, and if using essential oils, add them now and stir again.
  4. Carefully transfer and pour mixture into silicone molds or flexible soap molds. If using a glass measuring cup, it should pour out easily. If using a bowl, you can use a spatula to help.
  5. Allow lotion mixture to dry completely overnight, allowing it plenty of time to harden up. If necessary… place your molds into the refrigerator to speed up the process.
  6. The next morning, simply pop your lotion bars out from their molds, and you’re done!
  7. Keep some for yourself, and wrap some up to give away as pretty little homemade gifts! I love wrapping a little twine bow around the ones I’m giving away as gifts.

How to Use Homemade Lotion Bars:

When ready to use, simply rub a lotion bar along your dry skin, then rub your skin with your hand to work the lotion into your skin.

How to Store Lotion Bars:

  • Wide mouth mason jars make a wonderful container for storing lotion bars!
  • Keep in mind… lotion bars exposed to high heat can melt, so store your lotion bars in a cool, dark, dry location… out of direct sunlight.

How to Make Lotion Bars Harder:

If you keep your house warm inside, you can easily make lotion bars harder simply by storing them in your refrigerator.

    You certainly make it sound easy to make. Can I use another oil instead of coconut? I’m allergic to it.

      Oh no… that’s so sad, Carol! Hmm… I honestly haven’t tried with other oils, but if I were to play around with substitutes for the coconut oil, I would probably start with a blend of cocoa butter + almond oil. Hope that helps!
