It’s best to give your makeup sponge a quick clean every day and a deep clean about once a week.

This will ensure your sponges and beauty blenders stay squeaky clean, and don’t transfer any unnecessary bacteria back onto your face.

You’ll just scrub it down with a bar of soap under running hot water for daily cleaning, or soak it in dawn dish soap for a deeper cleaning.

How to Clean Makeup Sponges at Home (Daily Clean)

Rub your sponge vigorously on a bar of soap under running hot water.

Continue to turn your sponge while rubbing, making sure every section is getting scrubbed with the soap.

Rinse the sponge off with water, squeeze out the water from your sponge, and repeat the rinse and squeeze a few more times.

Allow the sponge to dry completely overnight. (I like to let mine dry in my beauty sponge holder so it has plenty of air flow.)

How to Clean Makeup Sponges with Dawn (Deep Clean)

Add 5 drops of blue Dawn Dish Soap plus hot water to a small mason jar or bowl.

Then add additional drops of Dawn Dish Soap directly to your beauty sponge, especially areas where there are stains.

Massage the dish soap into the sponge, then continue to scrub while running under hot water.

Then simply drop your beauty sponge in the jar or bowl, and allow it to soak for 15 minutes.

Once it has soaked, rinse it off with water and then scrub it down with a bar of soap under hot water.

Then rinse the sponge off with water again, squeeze out the water from your sponge, and repeat the rinse and squeeze a few more times.

Let your sponge dry overnight, and your makeup sponge will be deep cleaned and ready to use again the next morning!
