How Do You Make a Peppermint Sugar Scrub?
It’s actually SO easy!
Here’s what you’ll do…
- Melt Coconut Oil
- Mix in Sugar
- Add Drops of Essential Oil
- Mix well, and you’re done!
Can I Put Peppermint Extract in a Sugar Scrub?
Sugar scrub is best when made with essential oils rather than extracts, so I suggest using a high quality Peppermint Essential Oil in this scrub.
What is Peppermint Sugar Scrub Good For?
Sugar scrub is an amazing exfoliator.
Thanks to the tiny granules of sugar, when you gently rub it on your skin, it can help to slough off old skin cells.
Then simply rinse with water, and moisturize when you’re done for dreamy, smooth skin!
How Long Does Peppermint Sugar Scrub Last?
Sugar scrubs are best when used within 3 months from making them.
If making them as gifts, you can make them a few weeks ahead of time, allowing plenty of time for the recipient to still enjoy them.

Heidi says
Thanks, Christie! And you’re right… it is such a budget friendly gift, but seems so fancy and luxurious at the same time!
Lindsay says
Hi ! I left the scrub in a old sour cream container (left jars at school) and it’s harden up / not as ‘runny’ as when I first made it. Is that normal , or can I add something to it ?
Heidi says
Hi Lindsay ~ that is normal… the coconut oil will harden up as it cools, and soften as it warms. Once you scoop some out and it touches your warm skin, it will begin to instantly soften again. Hope that helps! 🙂
Pamela A says
Love love love this stuff! I live in the deep south and lately it’s been about 9 thousand degrees every day so we’re putting in a lot of beach time. I put some of this scrub in a little jar and threw it in the beach bag for our lips. Makes your wind burned lips so soft instantly. This is going to be great for winter too! Again, thanks for this wonderful and super easy recipe.
Pamela G. says
I made the peppermint sugar scrub just now, start to finish it took 3 minutes now I just have to wait for it to cool. It already smells so summery and peppermint to me cools you off. Love these scrub recipes thank you and have a great Fourth of July everyone. God Bless America!
Debbie Manning says
Where is a good place to get the essential oils?
Heidi says
Hi Debbie ~ my favorite place to get them is on Amazon: http://amzn.to/1EpqGhp
I’ve also purchased them at Vitamin World.
Hope that helps! 😉
Carissa Malatesta says
Hey there…..
Hope this finds you doing well.
If I am planning on making 15-20 jars of these…then how many bottles of the oils (peppermint and coconut) do you suggest I get of each?
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question.
CM
crystal smith says
Substitute almond oil for coconut oil to avoid the scrub hardening. If u dont have essential oil, a 5+drops of cooking peppermint extract will work. (Add more depending on what scent intensity you want.)
Hailey Crouse says
Coconut oil is very expensive. Are there other options? Like can I just use a small amount of olive oil like in the Vanilla Brown Sugar scrub?
amy says
coconut oil… get it at Costco or Sam’s Club. Much cheaper and you should be cooking with it anyway. Make sure to get extra virgin coconut oil. Not all coconut oils are equal. Nutiva is a good brand!
Pamela Brock says
Actually coconut oil is inexpensive, Sells for around $5.00 at WalMart., Or at Trader Joes.
Jennifer Kenngott says
Would it be ok to use peppermint extract instead of essential oils?
Regina Neuman says
I’m very new to this stuff but I mixed the coconut oil unmelted and added a little bit of olive oil.
Jennifer says
How many jars does this recipe make?
gayle carrier says
how many jars dose it make
Kathy Manning says
This may sound silly but how do you use the sugar scrub after you make it?
susan says
Just scoop out a handful and scrub away. Leaves skin super soft. Enjoy.
Lori says
I made this last night and this morning all my jars of scrub are hard. You cannot just simply scoop it out. What do you suggest?
Sarah says
Set the jar in some warm/hot water, or hold it under warm/hot running water until it softens. Coconut oil is a solid at 77*F and liquid at 78*F. Shouldn’t take very long to soften it up enough to use it
Selina says
coconut oil will become solid when it cools, then melt completely at a little over 70°. in between it just gets soft. once you scoop some out and rub it on your hand for a second, it will be nice and melted. if you’re taking a bath, putting it in the bath water, or holding it under the running water works too!
Terra says
This is so great! Super simple and so adorable! Great Valentines day gift, thanks!
