How to Freeze Eggs for Later Use {It Works!}

August 1, 2021 By Heidi 34 Comments

I may get paid for ads or purchases made through links in this post.

You’ll never toss out another egg once you know How to Freeze Eggs for Later Use! Frozen eggs are great for baking, cooking, and camping, too!

Whether you’ve got baskets of overflowing eggs thanks to your Backyard Chickens, or you’ve stocked up on eggs for a great price at the grocery store… if you can’t use them up before they go bad, just freeze them! This simple little trick for How to Freeze Eggs for Later Use will save you so much money.

Once you know how to freeze eggs, you’ll never need to toss any out again. Plus you’ll never run out of eggs either, if you always keep extras in the freezer! It really is the easiest way to preserve eggs, and works wonderfully when you need to use them later for baking and cooking, or whipping up some scrambled eggs for breakfast. They’re even great to add to the cooler for your next Camping Trip!

So are you ready to learn another fun Kitchen Tip and food preservation hack?

Here’s my favorite trick for how to freeze eggs in muffin tins…

How to Freeze Eggs for Later Use

Can You Freeze Raw Eggs for Later Use?

So how do you freeze eggs for long term storage? It’s actually SO easy! You just need eggs, a silicone muffin mold, and a gallon sized ziploc bag!

What You’ll Need to Freeze Eggs:

  • Fresh Eggs
  • Nonstick Cooking Spray {works MUCH better than traditional muffin tins}
  • Silicone Muffin Mold
  • Small Cookie Sheet

How to Freeze Eggs in Muffin Tins:

  1. First you’ll want to place your silicone muffin mold on a small cookie sheet. This will help support the shape once you fill it with eggs.
  2. Now spray each section lightly with nonstick cooking spray.
  3. Then one by one, just whisk your egg lightly in a small bowl or glass measuring cup, then pour each whisked egg into one individual section of a silicone cupcake liner.
  4. Carefully place tray and mold with eggs into the freezer and flash freeze for about 5 hours, or until eggs have frozen completely.
  5. After eggs have frozen, simply remove them from your silicone muffin mold. Try pressing up from underneath, and they should just pop right out.
  6. Transfer frozen eggs to a Gallon Freezer Ziploc Bag, removing as much air as possible, and place back in your freezer.
  7. Eggs can last up to 6 months in the freezer.

How Do You Unfreeze Frozen Eggs?

So what’s the best way to thaw frozen eggs? The evening before you’ll be needing your eggs, simply transfer however many eggs you’ll need from the freezer to the refrigerator in a small bowl, allowing them to thaw in the fridge overnight.

How to Use Frozen Eggs:

Frozen eggs are so versatile for baking and cooking, and can be used in so many ways! Here are a few of my favorite uses for frozen eggs:

  • Breakfast Casseroles
  • Brownies
  • Cakes
  • Camping Trips
  • Cookies
  • Frittata
  • Omelettes
  • Quiche
  • Scrambled Eggs

What Your Frugal Friends Are Saying about Freezing Eggs…

Laurel writes: “We have 15 hens and have surplus eggs and freeze them.”

Angela writes: “I’ve been doing this for years. My hens produce more than we can eat or sell. It’s not uncommon for me to have 8-12 dozen eggs in a large basket on my counter in the kitchen. I found that using a silicone mold to crack the eggs into works best, that way you can just peel the eggs out. I tried regular muffin tins and it was so hard to do.”

Joanna writes: “I usually freeze the egg whites when I just need the yolks.”

Now… I’ve got even more fabulous Kitchen Tips and Tricks to share with you that will save you so much time and effort.
