How Does A Dump Cake Work?

This is honestly one of the easiest desserts you can make!

The very forgiving ingredients for this crockpot apple dump cake are simply dumped, in layers, into your slow cooker.

Once everything has been added to your slow cooker, all you’ll need to do is place the lid on top and wait for the magic to happen!

Your slow cooker apple dump cake cook time will vary depending on whether you choose to cook on high or low heat.

Ingredients

You’ll just need a few simple ingredients to create the BEST apple dump cake made with pie filling and spice cake mix!

Check your cupboards or pantry, or add the following to your next grocery list, so you’ve got everything on hand…

  • Spice Cake Mix – if you can’t find a spice cake mix, see tip below for how to convert a yellow cake mix into a spice cake mix.
  • Apple Pie Filling – store bought or use this Homemade Apple Pie Filling
  • Butter – I like using salted butter, but unsalted will work just fine, too.
  • Cinnamon

You’ll also need a 5 – 6 quart Crock Pot, 9×13 pan, or 12″ cast iron skillet to get the job done.

Note: If you can’t find a spice cake mix, try this as a substitute: Use a Yellow Cake Mix, and whisk in the following: 1 3/4 tsp. Cinnamon, 1/2 tsp. ground Ginger, 1/4 tsp ground Nutmeg, 1/4 tsp. ground Cloves.

I made this for dessert for Sunday dinner and it was incredible! Even my husband who doesn’t typically care for spice cake loved it! It’s super flavorful and reminds me of gingernaps. So, so good!

    1. Heidi Miller says:

I am so glad the hubby liked it. The spice from the spice cake mix is very subtle with this recipe, and because of that, the lovely apple flavor shines through beautifully!

  2. Kitchen Ready Betty says:

    5 stars
This Apple Dump Cake recipe looks absolutely incredible, Heidi! I love how simple it is with just 4 ingredients. Making desserts in the crockpot is such a great option, especially when looking for cozy fall recipes. I can’t wait to try this out with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream on top!

    1. Heidi Miller says:

You can’t go wrong with a big ol’ scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. It takes this decadent apple treat to the next-level of deliciousness!

  3. Marjorie Grasta says:

    5 stars
Have been making this recipe for years. Absolutely love it. I’ve also been known to add chopped walnuts or pecans to the crumb topping. I also make sure topping is a golden brown. If using fresh apples I tend to precook for 15 min in oven before adding the crumb topping and than finish off with 30 min to brown and crisp up the topping

    1. Heidi Miller says:

I love your idea to add chopped walnuts or pecans to the topping, Marjorie… that sounds absolutely delicious! Thank you for sharing your tips when using fresh apples, too! Have a beautiful day!
