The trick is to add an extract to your cookies. For this sugar cookie recipe passed down from my hubby’s sweet grandma, you’ll use Almond Extract.

It takes just a few simple ingredients to make the BEST classic sugar cookies!
- Sugar
- Butter
- Eggs
- Flour
- Almond Extract
- Cream of Tartar
- Baking Soda
- Salt
Do You Need To Chill Dough For Sugar Cookies?
No chilling is required and you don’t even need a cookie cutter. In fact, these easy drop cookies only require 10 minutes of total prep time!
Do You Put Sugar On A Sugar Cookie Before Baking?
Yes. You will roll each cookie ball in a bowl of sugar before placing it on a parchment lined nonstick cookie sheet.

Easy Sugar Cookie Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 2/3 cups All-Purpose Flour
- 2 tsp. Cream of Tartar
- 1/2 tsp. Baking Soda
- 1/4 tsp. Salt
- 1 1/2 cups Granulated {White} Sugar
- 1 cup Unsalted Butter {softened to room temperature}
- 2 Large Eggs
- 1 tsp. Almond Extract
- 1/2 cup Granulated Sugar {for rolling}
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Add 1/2 cup Sugar to small bowl, and set aside for later. {this will be used to roll cookie dough balls before baking}
- Add Flour, Cream of Tartar, Baking Soda and Salt to large bowl, and whisk together until well combined. Set aside for later.
- In separate large mixing bowl, cream together Butter and 1 1/2 cups Sugar for 1 – 2 minutes using hand mixer or stand mixer with paddle attachment.
- Then add Eggs and Almond Extract, and continue mixing.
- Finally, add Flour mixture, and continue to mix until well combined.
- Roll dough into 1 tbsp. size balls, then roll each ball in bowl of sugar.
- Place on a parchment lined nonstick cookie sheet, several inches apart.
- Gently flatten each cookie dough ball with base of glass to 1/2″ thickness.
- Bake for 7 – 9 minutes, or until done.
- Allow cookies to cool on cookie for 2 minutes before transferring to wire rack to finish cooling.
- Storage Tip: Cooled cookies can be stored at room temperature in an air tight container for up to 5 days.
