Add a beautiful star to your outdoor Christmas display this year with this easy DIY Plastic Hanger Star with Lights!

It’s almost time to pull out the Christmas lights and deck out the yard again for the holidays! Whether you’re looking for a fun new addition to your outdoor decor, or just want an easy plastic hanger craft to make with those extra hangers in the coat closet, you’ll love this DIY Plastic Hanger Star with Lights!

Creating a festive home and beautiful light display doesn’t need to be expensive… thanks to these fun Christmas Decorating Ideas on a Budget! And when it comes to outdoor decorations, it’s a fabulous place to add a little DIY! You’ll be able to customize your decor outside, and save SO much money at the same time!

Plus, you won’t believe how easy this DIY Plastic Coat Hanger Star is to make! You’ll just need 10 White Plastic Hangers, some zip ties, Christmas twinkle lights, and you’re done! It’s a big star too, measuring about 3 ft wide x 3 ft tall, so it will make makes such an amazing statement in your yard!

So are you ready for the simple step-by-step tutorial?

Here’s what you’ll do…

DIY Plastic Hanger Star with Lights

What You’ll Need to Make a DIY Plastic Coat Hanger Star:

  • 10 White Plastic Hangers
  • 35+ Clear 8″ Zip Ties
  • 100 strand White Wire Christmas String Along Lights

How to Make a DIY Plastic Hanger Star:

  1. Lay out 2 hangers to make a capital ‘A’ shape.
  2. Zip tie at the top, and both sides where hangers meet.
  3. Then repeat the process 4 more times, so you end up with 5 sets.
  4. Now, it’s time to attach them all together to make your star!
  5. Just look at the pictures above to see where I attached my zip ties, and make sure to attach them tightly, then cut off the ends. If you find any other areas that are slipping or really wiggly, go ahead and attach additional zip ties to those areas.
  6. Then, once you have built your star, it’s time to wrap it with lights! Starting at the edge of one of the star points, begin wrapping your lights. I didn’t do anything fancy here, but occasionally weaved them in and out for extra support, and just made sure to only have about 20 lights per each section.

*Note: This will make one large 3 foot by 3 foot star. If you’d like to make a smaller star as well, consider using child-sized plastic hangers and a 50-strand light string.
