Supplies Needed for DIY Cinnamon Pine Cones
- Pine Cones
- Cookie Sheet
- Aluminum Foil
- Gallon Ziploc Bag
- Cinnamon (Cassia) Essential Oil
How to Bake Pine Cones
Now before we start, we’ll need to bake our pine cones to ensure no little itty bitty bugs have moved on into our homes. Here’s what you’ll do…
Preheat oven to 250 degrees.
Line cookie sheet with aluminum foil, place pine cones on foil, and bake for 30 minutes.
This will help clean up the pine cones and take care of any little bugs that might have been hiding inside. So long buggies!
Remove tray from oven, and allow pine cones to cool completely.

Zip up, give it a good shake and toss, to evenly coat the pine cones, and set it aside for at least 5 days.
After 5+ days, remove pine cones from bag, place in a basket or around the house, and enjoy their lovely scent!

Wondering how to refresh scented pine cones? Over time as the scent starts to fade, just place them back in the bag, add more essential oil, and pull them out again after 1 week.
Or, you can have two sets of pine cones going at all times… one scented version out on display, and another being scented up in a ziploc bag to swap out once the scent fades on the other set.

can i use cinnamon leaf essential oil?
Heidi says
Hi Carol ~ I don’t see why not. I’ve honestly only tried with Cassia Essential Oil, and have read that Cassia has a bit sweeter and stronger scent, so it’s possible the Cinnamon Leaf scented pine cones could end up a little milder in terms of scent? If you do give it a try with the Cinnamon Leaf Oil, let me know how they turn out!
