Can A Baby Eat Green Beans?

My babies were able to eat green beans as soon as they were ready for other solid foods, at around 6 – 7 months of age.

If you are unsure of exactly when to start your own baby on solid foods, I recommend asking your pediatrician.

Can I Use Frozen Green Beans For Baby Food?

Yes you can.

In fact, I used frozen green beans prepared in the Instant Pot to make this homemade green bean baby food.

How Do You Puree Green Beans For Babies?

Green beans in an Instant Pot.

For this recipe I used a blender to puree the green beans.

I transferred the cooked green beans from the pressure cooker to my blender.

Then I used the blender to blend/pulse the green beans to the desired consistency.

Once done, I transfer the baby food peas to some OXO Tot Baby Blocks for easy storage in the refrigerator.

You can also meal prep by storing these in your freezer to use later.

When baby is ready to eat, simply pull one out at a time and allow it to come to room temperature prior to feeding to baby.

Do Babies Like Green Beans Puree?

Honestly, it just depends.  Some babies love them, and some babies don’t mind spitting them right back out.  (Don’t ask me how I know) 🙂

When it came to my boys, they always would have chosen Sweet Potato Puree or Squash Puree if they could have.

However, I just kept mixing in Green Beans and Green Pea Puree to make sure they were getting a variety of nutrients.

I also wanted to make sure I was exposing them to a variety of new flavors, too!

Ingredients

  • 14 oz. Bag Frozen Green Beans
  • 2 cups Water

Instructions

  • Place frozen beans in the bottom of Instant Pot, and pour 1 cup water over beans.
  • Select Pressure Cook, Low, and change time to 4 minutes.
  • Preheating will begin 10 seconds after settings are selected.
  • Once beans are done, do a quick release for the pressure. (I like to do a gradual quick release to avoid any messy splatters... basically a quick release of steam in a few gradual nudges.)
  • Now transfer your cooked beans to your blender, and discard any excess liquid in the instant pot.
  • Pour remaining 1 cup water over beans in blender, and blend or pulse (stirring as necessary), until you reach your desired consistency.  For an even smoother puree, simply add more water 1 tbsp. at a time.
  • Transfer Green Bean Puree to OXO Tot Baby Blocks, pop on the lids, and store in Refrigerator or Freezer.
  • When baby is ready to eat, pull one out at a time and allow it to come to room temperature prior to feeding Baby.

Notes

  • It will take around 15 minutes for your Instant Pot to initially reach pressure before cooking begins.
  • In the refrigerator, store up to 3 days.
  • In the freezer, store up to 3 months.

Its such a good idea to make your own. I know my mum and dad used to puree what they were having to give me rather than the pre-made jars. Think this is something I would do in the future (if I have children), because at least you know what they are eating!

    Thanks for sharing!
