#1. Avoid Weekends! Shop at Marshalls Department Store Wednesday – Friday (11am – 2pm) for BEST Selection! (Tip From a Marshalls Employee)
Wondering what the Marshalls best time to shop is?
Well, if you’ve ever shopped at Marshalls Discount Clothing Store on a Saturday or Sunday, you’ll notice the mayhem from the weekend rush.
Oh I know, I know… shopping on the weekends is fun, but this ONE trick can be such a game changer!
According to an employee at my local Marshalls, weekday mornings around 11am are the best time to shop! She said they receive shipments 5 days a week, Monday – Friday.
However, if you go too early in the morning, the merchandise might not all be out on the floor yet. So if you can swing it, or have time on your lunch break, 11am – 2pm can be a fantastic time to score deals!
When it comes to days of the week, Mondays and Tuesdays are often spent restocking after the weekend rush, so Wednesday, Thursday, and Fridays in the late morning/early afternoon will be some of your best times to shop and bargain hunt!
#2. Always Ask for a Marshalls Discount on Damaged Goods!
Did you find something you love only to notice a scratch on it… like the arm of this chair?
It never hurts to ask a Marshalls or HomeGoods employee for a discount! You may be able to score an extra 10% off if the manager approves it!
Don’t be shy… it never hurts to ask!
#3. Find Something at a Marshalls Store You LOVE, But Want More Than One? (Use This Trick!)
Marshalls & HomeGoods deals can be AMAZING, but the stock on hand can vary wildly.
This simple little trick can save the day! For example, I needed some new Marshalls exercise clothes, and found the CUTEST Tommy Bahama skorts last year at my local Marshalls store… for $20 (originally $80).
They only had one in my size, but I really wanted to pick up a few more for my daily walks, so I headed to Marshalls online. Unfortunately there weren’t any available at Marshalls.com.
Then I headed to TJMaxx.com, and SCORE! They had my size and color in stock for the same price… so I added to cart and quickly checked out! It was SO much faster and easier than driving to nearby cities, hoping their Marshall’s might have some in stock.
#4. Be Flexible on Colors to Score the BEST Deals at Marshalls Discount Clothing Store!
When it comes to our favorite Marshalls clearance racks, now is the time you’ll want to be flexible on colors.
The first step is to know what colors look good with your hair, eyes, and skin tone.
If you don’t know your best colors yet, try searching online: “free clothing color analysis”… that will be a great place to start!
For example, I snatched up this clearance Adrianna Papell blouse in a color I don’t typically wear, but within my color palette. And guess what… it quickly became a favorite! I’ve worn it so many times, the ‘cost per wear’ is SO low!
You never know what you might find on the Marshalls clearance aisles or what Marshalls shoes you’ll find on clearance. So make it a habit to never leave the store without first taking a walk down clearance lane.
Then if you find a style you love in a color in your color palette… go try it on and see what you think!

#5. Wait for January and July/August for the BIGGEST Marshalls Clearance Sale! (Tip From a Marshalls Employee)
A Marshalls employee recently told me that Marshalls has the biggest sales at the end of December through January, and again in July/August.
With doing inventory, after-holiday clearance, and big pushes to make room for Spring and Fall merchandise, these are the months you can score some truly amazing deals!
Pay especially close attention to Marshalls dresses clearance and Marshalls shoes clearance for some incredible deals!
#6. Know The Secrets to Decode Colored Marshalls Price Tags!
As a savvy Marshalls shopper, it’s important to know what those tags mean, too.
Serious Marshalls bargain hunters, like us Frugal Girls, like to Save Money Fast, right? So here’s what you need to know before you shop at Marshalls…
- White tags = Regular store price
- Red tags = Clearance
- Yellow tags = Final clearance markdowns
- Yellow tags on top of Yellow tags = Final clearance that has been marked down AGAIN with an even deeper discount!
- Tags with a Name Brand = You just found a deeply discounted name brand item!
- Tags with ‘Designer’ = You just found a discounted gem!
- Tags with ‘Irregular’ = Slight defect, so examine it closely when trying it on.
So if you find a rare and coveted yellow tag and you love the item, now is the time to grab it before it’s gone!
Yellow tag items don’t last long, and are easiest to find around the January and August Marshalls clearance sales.
Just look at this amazing deal… $10 (with an $80 value). It had 2 red tags, and then 3 yellow tags layered on top of that. When I see something like this that I love, I snatch it up. After 5 markdowns, it can be pretty risky to wait for more!
#7. Find the BEST Marshalls Purses and Handbags Hidden in the Very BACK of the Racks, Attached to the Fixture With a Cord!
Another easy trick when you’re on the purse and handbag aisle, is to always, ALWAYS reach to the very back and check for bags attached to the fixture with a long cord.
You’ll find some of the highest quality bags hiding back there… and may even score a beauty like Kate Spade, Coach, Michael Kors, and more!
They’re hard to spot, but definitely worth the extra effort!
#8. Drive Further to a Marshalls Store in a Nearby Upscale City For More Designer Clothes!
Want to know another easy trick? If you live close to an upscale city… try driving further to go shop at that Marshalls location!
I know, I know… the Marshalls near me now is as convenient as can be.
However, Marshalls inventory can vary wildly from store-to-store, and sometimes those posh cities score loads of luxury merchandise!
For example, I live about 30 minutes away from Scottsdale, Arizona… and have found some AMAZING name brand items at the various Marshalls locations there! They’re some of my favorite stores to hit.
Give it a try – it just might payoff BIG! Then check that same city and swing by their TJ Maxx to score even more high-end deals while you’re there!
#9. Skip The Department Store & Score the Deepest Discounts on Full Size Fragrances at Marshalls!
Do you have a perfume you love but are having sticker shock on the department store price?
I’m there with you! Always check the fragrances at Marshalls to look for your favorite scent.
Then… look for FULL-SIZE bottles (3 oz. or larger) to score the very best deals and deepest discounts!
Marshalls also has a great selection of men’s colognes, so you can score some sweet deals on Stocking Stuffers for Men, too!
#10. Save BIG on High End Beauty and Skincare Products… But Pay Close Attention to Expiration Dates!

Just make sure to pay CLOSE attention to those expiration dates, as some products may be closeout products. Remember: It’s only a good deal if you’ll be able to use it up in time before it expires.
