Green Smoothies Recipes for Energy! {Simple Super Food Drink}

April 6, 2009 By Heidi 25 Comments

Sneak extra fruits and veggies into your day with simple Green Smoothies Recipes for Energy!  They’re also perfect for on the go snacks!

Green Smoothie Recipes for Energy

Power pack your morning {or afternoon} with this easy Superfood Smoothie Recipe!  It’s true… making your own simple Green Smoothies Recipes for Energy is the perfect way to power you through your busy day!

I admit it… I’m hooked on Smoothies packed with Spinach!  {I guess there are worse problems to be had}  I pinky promise you can’t taste it! 😉

Oh, and as long as you add some pretty colored fruit {especially blueberries}, it won’t turn out green either!  Let’s just say it looks a little more appetizing and is a little easier on the eyes when it’s more of a pink/purple shade.

You can even add a little vanilla whey protein to your smoothie after working out!

Course: Drinks
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 2 Cups Fresh Spinach
  • 1 Banana
  • 2 Cups Orange Juice
  • 2 Cups Non-Fat Milk
  • 8 Large Frozen Strawberries
  • ½ Cup Frozen Blueberries
  • 8 oz. Yogurt {I like to use Boysenberry Blackberry, Strawberry, or Raspberry}
  • 3 Baby Carrots
  • Optional: 1 tsp. Sugar

Instructions

  • Blend spinach, orange juice and milk together first. I use the ‘liquify’ option on my blender.
  • Once the spinach has blended well, add all other ingredients and blend.
  • I like to use frozen fruit, but if using fresh fruit, you can add in some ice cubes for more of a frozen consistency.
  • Enjoy!
  • If making these for someone else, you may want to wait until they’ve had it and raved about how much they enjoy it before you share the secret with them… that they’re drinking spinach!

Superb, nutrient-packed smoothie recipe! Love it! Also enjoying it with almond milk and some ground flax seed for added punch. A meal-in-a-glass one. Thanks!

I do not use much liquid in my green smoothies. I make up my protein powder, oatmeal, almonds, cinnamon and a little cocoa powder and put in glasses to have each day. I put this in my vitamix and then one cup almond or coconut milk, two handfuls spinach or spring mix, a handful carrots. I also buy frozen cut up fruits and fill quart bags for each day and add this to the mix in the blender. I add blueberries for color and a banana for smoothness and blend. I totally fill the large blender! I blend and pour into a thermos for granddaughter to take to work and divide the rest with my two greatgrandchildren. We all have a nourishing and filling drink every morning.

I absolutely LOVE this idea…. I used to drink the SuperFood smoothie from Odwalla…. till I found out I was a celiac (they use wheat and other no-no grains). I am so excited to try this out and get my morning green back!

My freezer is always stocked with Spinach!! My kids love it. My pickiest eater has NO CLUE! Love green smoothies. Blueberries are the best at hiding the green. BUT…I have even resorted to calling the green smoothies Monster Smoothies (you know…monsters are green right?) and my 6 year old boy LOVES that!

I have just tried a recipe that a friend told me.

It’s just apple juice, frozen spinach, and frozen berries. Super simple and easy to make.

The kids and I made these the other day for the first time. The oldest (almost 3) and I enjoyed them, but the youngest (almost 2) not so much. You couldn’t taste the spinach at all!

I was just as skeptical as you, but about a month ago I tried it out and I’m hooked too!

    My fav smoothie is:

    1/2 cup frozen blueberries
    1/2 banana
    5 strawberries
    1/4 cup milk
    1/4 cup vanilla yogurt
    1 Tbsp ground flax seed
a couple of hand fulls of spinach

My husband didn’t want any part of “green” in his smoothie when I first mentioned them. He was fine when he discovered that you couldn’t taste the spinach. He prefers them to not be too green, though. We like banana(helps to sweeten), strawberries, pineapple and plain yogurt. I usually add a bit of raw honey for sweetener and sometimes a dash of vanilla. Yum!

We love spinach or kale in our smoothies. I also buy bananas or clearance and throw them in the freezer for cheap fruit and it just adds more nutrients and fiber for our morning. I also will add some of our non-sweetened applesauce we canned last year and our own juice that we canned too. It’s become my hubby’s favorite breakfast.

I haven’t tried green smoothies. My kids LOVE smoothies and we have them almost every morning with breakfast. My kids actually love spinach and I add it to anything I can. I think I’ll sneak some in to their smoothies in the morning and see if they notice. I have a feeling they might not drink it as readily knowing veggies are in there, even if they enough said veggie. Thanks for the recipe and recommedation!
