How to Save Money on Swim Diapers…

I love anything that has to do with water… the beach, the lake, the swimming pool ~ yep, I love it all!  If you do too, here are some tips to save money on Swim Diapers for your little ones this summer!

Use Reusable Swim Diapers:

Save $$ on Disposable Swim Diapers:

  • My favorite tried and true trick?  Wash the disposables… that’s right ~ wash ‘em!  After using the disposable swim diapers {like Huggies Little Swimmers}, wash them in the laundry!  I’ve put this trick to the test for years… and trust me ~ it works!  When they weren’t “messy and beyond help”, I would wash them in the laundry, and was often able to use one package all summer long!  Just don’t put them in the dryer or they’ll become crunchy… instead, just let them air dry, and they’ll be as good as new! ;)

That’s fascinating that they are washable (even if it was only once, that would double my usage and make more swims possible!)… yippee for awesome ideas!

  5. Lydia says:

Are you saying that you actually can wash the disposable? Or did I misunderstand? If so, that is way cool!

  6. Heidi says:

Hi Lydia ~ that’s right… I have washed, and washed, and washed the disposable swim diapers many times before ever tossing one.

I know it sounds crazy, but it really does work! Just don’t put it in the dryer or it will turn out crunchy. :) Let it air dry, then it will be ready to use again!

Ooh! I am so intrigued. I had no idea there was such a thing as reusable swim diapers. And I even cloth diaper!

I can’t wait to try some. Thanks for the heads up.

My mom has been washing these things and re-using them since I bought the first ones 4 years ago! I thought she was crazy at first, BUT THEY WORKED PERFECTLY! I’ve had my lil ones “mess” in the washed ones, AND THEY DID NOT LEAK! We put them upside down over an empty coffee can to air dry. They come out perfect every time! (We do throw them away after they get poopied in though!) I almost always have leftover new ones every summer!

I’m a Grandmother, but I’m wondering…would the old rubber pants or plastic pants (they went over the cloth diaper and were shaped like a pair of womens underwear), anyhoo, would those work over a cloth diaper for swim diapers that would be totally reusable. Hope this helps :)

I am so glad to learn that you can wash swim diapers, I only wish you had been around to tell me seven years ago! Thanks for sharing!

    • Heidi says:

Hee, hee… I know how you feel Ashli ~ I didn’t figure this out until baby #2 was almost out of diapers. I was soooo sad thinking of all the $$ I’d spent! ;)

Any ideas on a fun police officer party for a 3 yr old, supplies, cake the whole thing? Thanks for the help!!

  16. Lily says:

I have seen/bought the reusable swim diapers at Target … works great! I think they were called wee ones. I usually put a vinyl cover over just in case. My local pool has these!

  17. Danielle says:

Another tip is check with your local public pool for reusable swim diapers. We went to a birthday party at a public pool that required reusable swim diapers and the pool sold them for $5 instead of the $10 or $15 you would pay in stores or online. They had a range of sizes and colors available.
