How to Save Money on Swim Diapers…

I love anything that has to do with water… the beach, the lake, the swimming pool ~ yes, I love it all!

If you do too… then here are some tips to save money on Swim Diapers for your little ones…

Buy Reusable Swim Diapers:

  • If you play in the water often, these will quickly pay for themselves!
  • If you’ve cashed in any Swagbucks for Amazon gift cards, you could use one to sweeten the deal even more!

Save $$ on Disposable Swim Diapers:

  • Prefer disposable swim diapers… like Huggies Little Swimmers?  Watch for sales and match with coupons!
  • My favorite tried and true trick?  After using the disposable swim diapers {like Huggies Little Swimmers}, wash them in the laundry!  When they weren’t “messy and beyond help”, I would wash them in the laundry, and was often able to use one package all summer long!  Just don’t put them in the dryer or they’ll become crunchy… instead, just let them air dry, and they’ll be as good as new! ;)

Thank you for the tips! I would have never thought of washing them!

  4. Naomi says:

That’s fascinating that they are washable (even if it was only once, that would double my usage and make more swims possible!)… yippee for awesome ideas!

  5. Lydia says:

Are you saying that you actually can wash the disposable? Or did I misunderstand? If so, that is way cool!

  6. Heidi says:

Hi Lydia ~ that’s right… I have washed, and washed, and washed the disposable swim diapers many times before ever tossing one.

I know it sounds crazy, but it really does work! Just don’t put it in the dryer or it will turn out crunchy. :) Let it air dry, then it will be ready to use again!

I didn’t know you could wash and reuse disposable swim diapers! Last summer I would just leave my son’s regular diaper on him (if it wasn’t poopy or too wet) when he was in the pool – he was always in a flotation device. I’ll have to try this trick… thanks for sharing!

    • Alice says:

As a Certified Pool Operator, I just broke down into tears! NEVER use disposable diapers for swimming! They swell & eventually WILL rupture! Have you ever cleaned up the millions of little “beads of stuff” that they are made of? It is a disaster that closes the pool for at least 24hrs. This is no fun for anyone. ALWAYS use a swim diaper!

      • Ashley says:

@Alice, He was in a floatie. He didnt ever get anythingt but his hands wet!

@ Ashely, I haveused a regular diaper in the pool if I didn’t have a swimmie. As long as you watch it you will know when its going to bust. Its either that or I put them in with nothing. Than there is poop to clean up in the pool. :) Just gotta use common sense.

  8. Chrys says:

I use cloth diapers on my boys and for playing in the water, I just remove the inserts and the covers work great for swim time.

  9. Nikki says:

Ooh! I am so intrigued. I had no idea there was such a thing as reusable swim diapers. And I even cloth diaper!

I can’t wait to try some. Thanks for the heads up.

  10. Kim says:

Great tip! Didn’t even know reusable swim diapers were available. Thanks!

  11. KJ says:

My mom has been washing these things and re-using them since I bought the first ones 4 years ago! I thought she was crazy at first, BUT THEY WORKED PERFECTLY! I’ve had my lil ones “mess” in the washed ones, AND THEY DID NOT LEAK! We put them upside down over an empty coffee can to air dry. They come out perfect every time! (We do throw them away after they get poopied in though!) I almost always have leftover new ones every summer!

  12. suzanne says:

OMG!!! I had no idea you could wash disposables!!!! maybe i should try that with the pull ups too! lol so long as there is no poop in them! hmmmm……..maybe I will try it…..hey, they are going in the trash anyway right?! I’ll get on that and report back! lolol
Thanks for yet another awesome tip Heidi!!!

  13. Olivia says:

Wow! I’m going to try washing them too! Thanks!

  14. MICHELLE says:

I didn’t even think about rewashing a disposable swim diapers. How did this idea pop in your head to try? Pretty smart brain you got there!!

( I doubt the pill-ups would work to rewash…different material used for the pull-ups as the disposible swim diapers.Am I right?)

  15. Pam says:

I’m a Grandmother, but I’m wondering…would the old rubber pants or plastic pants (they went over the cloth diaper and were shaped like a pair of womens underwear), anyhoo, would those work over a cloth diaper for swim diapers that would be totally reusable. Hope this helps :)

  16. LaCosta says:

Do NOT try this with pull ups-I know it works with the swim diapers, but pull ups are different. My daughter accidentally left her used pull up in her pj pants and the pull up went through the wash. It exploded and all those yucky little rubber ball thingys were everywhere, stuck to all the other laundry. Cleaning it up was terrible and all the clothes smelled awful! We cloth diaper, but I am still looking for a cloth “pull up” that would work for my 75 lb 7 year old all night…

  17. Jennifer A. says:

I found an incredible deal on iPlay (plain white) reusable swim diapers on Amazon.com. The trick is to find the reusable swim diapers sold by Amazon.com. I recently used my handy $10 off purchase off the baby store @ Amazon.com coupon for $10 off for the $10.99 iPlay swim diaper. My final cost including shipping was .99! Yahoo! I had two coupons, so I did two separate orders. I ended up getting two pairs for less than $2! I had to share this great deal!

  18. Ashli says:

I am so glad to learn that you can wash swim diapers, I only wish you had been around to tell me seven years ago! Thanks for sharing!

    • Heidi says:

Hee, hee… I know how you feel Ashli ~ I didn’t figure this out until baby #2 was almost out of diapers. I was soooo sad thinking of all the $$ I’d spent! ;)

Any ideas on a fun police officer party for a 3 yr old, supplies, cake the whole thing? Thanks for the help!!

  20. Lily says:

I have seen/bought the reusable swim diapers at Target … works great! I think they were called wee ones. I usually put a vinyl cover over just in case. My local pool has these!
