#4: Know Your Prices
Never assume the sale price or current price is the best deal. Â First, search for other current listings to find the best current price. Â I also recommend that you search “Completed Listings” to get historical pricing data for the item you are shopping for.
#5:Â Check Out The eBay Daily Deals Tab
This will show you a list of highly discounted listings. Â This is usually one of the first places I check each time I visit eBay.
#6: Search For Auctions About To End
If you bid for an item, bid the highest amount you are willing to pay within the last seconds of the auction. Â This will give you a better chance of snagging the item even if other people also make last minute bids.
#7:Â Search For Items With Few Bids
You can further increase your savings when you search for auction items with zero or just one bid, that are also about to end.
#8: Look for Misspelled Items
Often a seller will mistakenly misspell the item they are selling, in either the title or in the keywords. Â This can result in low bids or no bids at all, and can be an opportunity for you to score a deal.
There are several available tools that can help you spot these misspelled eBay listings. Â Options include baycrazy.com, bargainchecker.com and goofbid.com.
Just beware that some sellers purposely misspell their listed items. Â When looking for misspelled listings, avoid listings with both correct and incorrect spellings.
#9:Â Be Willing To Overlook Poor Photos
Just because the photo of an item looks grainy, dark or blurry, doesn’t mean you should always skip over that item. Â The poor quality photos can be due to the seller using a poor camera, or using a poor quality image they found somewhere online.
Be sure to also carefully read the item description and evaluate the seller’s ratings. Â A poor image may just be your ticket to scoring a sweet deal!
#10:Â Only Buy From High Rated Sellers
If you are wondering what is the safest way to buy on eBay? Â Using only High Rated Sellers is a good place to start. Â This will exponentially increase your chances of having a good shopping experience on eBay.
#11: Customize Your eBay Search
When searching for a specific item on eBay, save time and narrow your search when you select the “Advanced” option to the right side of the search bar.
#12: Â Save Your eBay Search
If you have an item you are looking for over and over again on eBay, take a moment to save your advanced search, so you don’t have to recreate the same search everyday. Â You can also used the “Saved Search” feature to request that eBay send you an email each time a specific item you are looking becomes available to buy.
#13: What To Buy on eBay
These are the 15 things I am always looking for when shopping on eBay. Â You may be able to score some sweet deals on these items:
- Vintage Items
- Rare Items
- Used Books
- Craft Supplies
- Gently Used Designer Purses, Handbags and Clothing
- Clothing Deals on some of Your Favorite Brands
- Gently Used Baby Clothes Sold As a “Lot.”
- Discounted Restaurant Gift Cards
- Coupons to Your Favorite Stores
- Refurbished Items from Highly Rated Sellers
- Open Box Items from Highly Rated Sellers
- Razor Blades
- Legos
- Tools
- Automotive Parts
#14:Â What Not To Buy on eBay
eBay is a great resource, but not for everything. Â To give yourself the best possible chance of having a good shopping experience, I recommend being cautious about buying these items on eBay…
- Refurbished Items without a Generous Warranty.
- Electronics that don’t offer Free Returns.
- All Higher Priced items that don’t allow for Free Returns.
- Used Baby Cribs and Carseats.
- Items from Poorly Rated Sellers.
- AND… avoid anything that appears too good to be true!
