I organize my pantry in food order and I hang up all my kids clothes based on sleeve length, whether they are collared or not. I also do not keep what we do not use. We purge, purge, purge all the time. I try to do a load of laundry every day (I wash in cold and usually have a full wash). I hang my clothes right away to know exactly what I have, so that I don’t over buy.”

Drea said: “Have a spot in your closet and/ or garage for items to donate. When there is to be a full bag, take it to a charity! It feels great knowing those items are helping others. Also, if you buy anything new, donate the old! Don’t keep it as a spare.”
Memarie said: “When giving stuff away… (1) See if other moms you know would like to have a clothing exchange party and donate whatever is left. (2) If you’re really tight for money, see if there are any consignment stores near you that will give you instant store credit or cash for your stuff. There are a couple in my area, so I basically trade my old clothes for “new.” (3) Freecycle is a great way to get rid of stuff fast without having to drive it anywhere.”

Roxanne said: “I was gifted 10+ heavy duty plastic shopping bags that I use for anything and everything. I’m sure you could use moving boxes or laundry baskets, whatever. The best use I’ve found so far is to sort my house.
I have been busy home-schooling and so clutter has piled up a bit. I would throw it all away, but mixed in with junk mail was receipts I needed or photos I wanted.
So, I made labels for each bag and went at it. They have household members names, room names, or things like, FILE, CRAFTS, PHOTOS, etc.. I had a big sort project and this really helped me get clutter down to a more manageable size.
If I have any new items, I put them in their bag immediately… most of the time. 🙂 “
Sonya said: “The garbage can is your friend. Simplify. 900 sq feet and 4 kids has taught me that we don’t need as much as we think. Also, for a major cleaning/decluttering, label a cardboard box for each room in the house.
As you find things in one room that go in another, toss it in the right box. Work through the rooms one by one, emptying their respective boxes and adding to the other boxes as you find more stuff.”
Dawn said: “Give each area a job or purpose. Keep only the things in that area that go with that job.
You can have a “dump spot” or a basket for the papers, a different basket for the dirty clothes etc. When the basket is full, clean it out! Limit the pile.”

Lisa said: “I organize small areas at a time, rather than overwhelming myself with too large of a space all at once. I put “like” items together, then find them a home somewhere in the house that works. For example, batteries.
I gathered all the batteries together from around the house and put them in a small, flat clear plastic bin. It now sits on the top shelf of our closet with a label on it.”
Melissa said: “BASKETS! I actually like to spend time with my kid… so I can’t spend all day re-organizing everything. Just make sure to clean out and organize the baskets once in a while so they are still useful!”

Nothing feels as good as a sitting down to enjoy family, friends, relative being hosted in a neat and organized room. I want to sincerely agree with Drea, because many of this items that we are no more using and regard as clutter or junks may be of help other. It’s amazing to know that what you regard as junks can solve another person’s problem. I will rather agree with donating the old ones once the new ones are available to combat clutter.
Also, agreeing with Dawn, each area at home should be dedicated for a particular purpose or function, as this will help in fitness and organization. Once each area or box is full, they can be empty respectively to limit pile.
Also, giving the old or unused items for recycle can also is also a great idea. This will provide another source of income and enhance clutter free live.

I keep a basket in several busy areas in my home for times that I’m too busy to put something away or for others in my home that can’t put things where they go (hubby). I’ve had a day care in my home for years and I’ve always had the rule that you can’t get something new out until you clean up what you already have out. No matter what that rule has to be number 1 with children. Stickers are great for getting this process started. Once it’s in place children love to see their area clean and organized if you make a big deal about it. Talk about how proud you are when they keep their area organized because that gives you more time to play with them. Just make sure you spend the “free time” playing with them, reading to them, and just having fun with them. Children need and want your attention most of all. Hubby’s respond to this as well. 😉 I keep like items together and I use a hanging jewelry organizer for all of my jewelry. This is great to see everything I have, it hangs in my closet with my clothes which is safer than putting than using boxes and trays in my dresser, I also hang shoe organizers behind my clothes flat against the wall behind my clothes. Everything is visible and accessible.

Still the question remains, how do you get your husband to stop throwing things down just anywhere and just not caring? Mine just throws things down.all over the house and if I say anything he starts a fight with me about it!

I like to use Tupperware Modular Mates to organize my kitchen. They are designed to use all the space so you do not have any wasted space and best of all, they really do keep the foods fresh as well as organized. They are see-through so you always know when you are running out of something. I used to find 3 of each item in my pantry because I could not find what I needed and bought another one!!! They look so organized and I love to open my pantry! Best part…they have a lifetime warranty! You can contact any Tupperware consultant to get a broken one replaced and no receipt is needed.

Ladies! In need of some tips to organize this growing shoe collection 😉 I can’t get rid of any and I’m tired of rummaging through my closet everytime we step out. Those shoe organizers from the store are pretty pricey and I don’t think they make enough slots…Please help!

Caroline.. I keep the boxes the shoes come in, or find some if they do not have box and label the outside… See More

Put a snapshot of the shoe on the box and you will instantly know what shoe is in the box.

Great tip, Doris!

Oops
Caroline.. I keep the boxes the shoes come in, or find some if they do not have box and label the outside of the box. Taking a picture of the shoes on the inside of the box make them a snap to find. Stack by type and voila . I do not have a ton of shoes, so this works well for me.

I line my shoes up underneath my bed. Always have. Keep your boots in the closet, and everything else is placed just underneath, in order so I can just grab one pair at a time. Seldom worn shoes can go behind on a second row if you have that many – I do. Get a bed skirt if you don’t want to see them. As a bonus, this keeps things from getting shoved under your bed. The only thing under there is shoes.
Jodie says
I have a cooler idea. I saw this on someone’s website. (I apologize, I don’t recall where.) She bought those little wall shelves, just the right size to place pairs of shoes going right up her wall. She only placed her cutest ones there, so they were like a display. It became part of her room’s charm and was adorable. This is summer, the best time of the year for yard sales. So try looking around for deals on shelves!

If you want to find and get your shoes easier out from under the bed you can organize them in those clear storage bins made for under the beds. I like one for dress shoes, one for tennis and winter shoes, one for sandles and summer shoes. The lids keep them from getting dusty and dirty to. You can also fit them on the floor underneath the clothes in your closet to. I also use the door shoe racks for the most often ones used and a vertical shelf for boots to.
Renee says
So my question is how do all of you get the husband and kids to work with you and keep your organizing work tamed
Carissa Laudan says
I have 7 children so I had to make my children start to do the decluttering and cleaning themselves starting at the age of 4 so I dont baby them any more. I first help them and teach them by directing and showing examples to. So once they come home from school they have home work and duties to do before the TV, video games, computer,or toys are used or played with. But I still reward and praise them for the good jobs they do.
