Could you use some Smarter Ways to Charge Your Phone and Tablet??
There’s nothing worse than reaching for your phone when you need to make a call, or snap a ridiculously cute picture, and realizing the battery is almost out of juice.
Sadness!
And… what about all those messy cables taking over your home? No matter how much we love our phones and tablets, a glob of crazy cables can sure take away from our cute decor and tidy rooms, right?
In my home, over the years (and now with teens in the house) we’ve accumulated Phones, iPads, and Kindles… and that means, more devices to keep charged and safe from power surges, too!
I desperately needed to put some of my own Home Decluttering Tips to use.
But that wasn’t enough.
I also had to come up with some new ideas for how to organize charging cables, and for how to keep a phone charged so it would be ready when we needed it.
I know we’re not the only ones with a bunch of devices to keep charged and organized. So I put together a list of some of the tips and tricks that we use. I hope you can use these ideas to help conquer your own cord clutter and to keep those batteries charged…

#1: Protect Your Phone with a Surge Protector
First things first… when it comes to charging you want to think safety, and that means a dedicated surge protector.
I personally use the Belkin Surge Protectors, and LOVE them!
I have a few at home, and another one I keep in my travel backpack just for trips so we can charge up all of our devices safely and easily at hotels.

#2: Tidy Up With a DIY Charging Station
When I think of a Home Charging Station, I want a way to keep my phone and tablet safe and I don’t want to see all those cords!
Now it’s time to think neat and tidy. I like to use a Cute Basket to hide all the devices and cords. Sometimes using shorter, uniform length cables can help keep things neat and tidy.
You can even thread your cords through a little gap in the basket weave, or cut out a little hole in the corner so your cords can just run straight out the side, like this…
Get yourself a cute Decorative Basket. Then… get yourself some nice, tidy and inexpensive New Cables.
#3: Replace Your Worn Out Cables
Cables have a way of wearing out, but did you know that frayed cables can send inconsistent surges of energy when charging your phone?
That can be a big no no when it comes to the health of your phone, so take some time to replace those old worn out cables, and make sure you have an extra one in your car’s glove box, too.
#4: Keep Your Phone Out of the Heat
Excessive heat can be a doozy, but did you know it can also cause some serious damage to your phone battery?
So whether it’s a steamy bathroom or a hot Summer day, just do what you need to do to keep your phone cool.
For example, I like to keep my phone out of the bathroom… and on a hot day at the beach or lake, I often just pop it in the cooler alongside my chilled drinks.
#5: Plan Ahead for Mobile Charging On-The-Go
When it comes to charging your phone or tablet on the go, think of where you want to store your chargers… like a car, purse, etc.!
Charging your phone in your car is an easy way to multi task, without having to plan ahead!
Just grab an extra phone charging cord and a car charger if needed.
If you need a really easy way to charge your phone On-The-Go and a car or wall outlet are not handy, there are some really handy and fun Purse or Pocket Friendly Phone Charger options to choose from!
If you’re planning on flying, I recommend a stronger mini charger that will give you several charges while you’re up in the air…

Or if you’re heading out on a road trip and going to be out of town for awhile, opt for something more powerful, like this…

With 4 teens we have quite a few electronics and we require they all get “turned in” each night. To simplify this, my husband installed an outlet inside our hall closet. We then installed a surge protector and a 10 outlet USB station (from Amazon) plugged into the surge protector. We hung a decorative wall file with 4 files on it (I probably paid $15 for it at TJ Maxx or Marshalls). Each teen can plug their devices in and gently put them in their own “file”. Each file can easily accommodate a slim laptop, a tablet and a phone. Admittedly the cords go everywhere but I tidy it up from time to time and inbetween I take comfort in knowing that it’s out of sight. Most importantly it Ives our family balance bbetween electronics and face time as that’s where electronics are stored.

Those are great ideas, Tamara! I love the wall file idea, too. I agree… I have 2 teenagers and family balance with face time is SO important. Thanks for sharing your fun tips! 🙂
