How to Keep Cut Flowers Fresh Longer
Supplies Needed:
- Fresh Cut Flowers from Store or your Garden
- Lukewarm Water
- Granulated Sugar {to feed flowers}
- Sharp Scissors
Instructions:
- Fill vase or mason jar with clean warm water.
- Add sugar to water in the vase, and stir well until sugar dissolves. {you’ll need approx. 1 1/2 tablespoons Sugar per 1 quart of Water}
- Then allow water to come to room temperature before placing your flowers in the vase.
- Once water is lukewarm, cut the bottom of your flower stems at a sharp angle under lukewarm running water, or while submerged in a basin of lukewarm water. {This angle will allow your stems to absorb more water, as opposed to a straight cut}
- Arrange flowers in vase, and remove any leaves below the water line.
- Be sure to change water {and add fresh sugar to new water} every other day to keep flowers fresh the longest.
- On water changing days, stems should also be cut again at an angle under lukewarm water before being placed back in the fresh water.
- Now enjoy your pretty blooms!
