I’ve got such a fun recipe {passed along from my friend Joli} to share with you ~ Ice Cream Cupcake Cones!
These are simple to make, tasty… and seriously cute!
Ice Cream Cone Cupcakes:
What You’ll Need:
- 12 flat-bottom Ice Cream Cones
- 1 Package Cake Mix
- Ingredients to prepare cake mix
- Frosting
- Food coloring to tint frosting {optional}
Now let’s get started!
Place ice cream cones into cupcake tin…
Prepare cake batter per instructions, then fill each cone 2/3 full.
Bake cones at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes, or until done.
They’ll poof up just like ice cream cones!
After they have cooled, frost… and enjoy!
Be sure to serve the same day that you make them… if you wait until the next day, the cones will be soggy.
These are fun treats for any day, and also great for birthday parties!

Those are really cute and they look yummy. How does the cone taste against the cake? My teenager would love to make these.
My mom used to make these when I was little and I’ve made them a bunch of times.
Anyone who makes these……don’t take too much time before putting them in oven after you pour the cake mix in the ice cream cones or pour them while you wait for a batch in the oven….they will either get soggy or rubbery on the bottoms.
Super cute… super easy & super delicious! My daughter is crazy about cupcakes and icecreams.. but I never thought of combining them both as one magical recipie.
I am sure my oven will be busy baking this yummy cupcakes tomorrow… and my little girl will be a happy volunteer in the kitchen

I LOVE that they are so much less “fussy” than the other recipe I have for these. Can’t wait to try them!
I would love to make this for my daughter’s bday for school. Any ideas how to transport???
How do you get the cones to stay upright in the oven? Do they balance ok in the muffin tin or do you put something around them?
Thanks
Hi Amy ~ mine balanced just fine in the muffin tin.
The weight of the cake batter helped weigh them down.

These are adorable! I came across your site looking for ideas to make for my daughters end of year preschool celebration. I’m curious to how you transport them though?
Thanks in advance,
Kerri
I’m linking these little beauties to a Soda Fountain Party on my party theme ideas site. Fun, fun!
Oh, and for the previous person’s question… You can easily frost the cupcakes when you arrive at the celebration site. Trust me; I’ve done it!
I caan do that.
As a kid in the 70′s, my mom used to make these all the time! Thanks for the blast from the past.
I made these for the first time a minute ago. Mine look horrible. They tipped over in the muffin tin and they ran down the sides. I even tried for the second dozen to put in smaller muffin tins. The ones here look so cute and mine are a disaster. I want to cry.
I made these for my daughter’s 6th. birthday. I thought I was so smart and did them the day before to save time on the day of her party. DUMB! The cones became too soggy and wouldn’t stand up. They don’t take long to bake so don’t do them too far ahead of time.
oh the memories! my mom used to make these when I was little!!
I was planning to make cupcakes for my daughters 6th bday party, will try this instead, very cute and easy!
I love making these for my kids!! I found they stand up better if you make a ring around them using foil. That way they’ll fit snug inside the pan.
Great tip, Cyndy!!
a good way to go about it also is to use a poster board and cut xs in them for the cones just have to use more than one layer for a solid hold and tape the ends
you can decorate the poster board and serve it off of there looks sooo cute
I make these all the time. My kids love them. I let them put sprinkles on it too! So much fun for a playdate or cheep birthday party. Let them decorated their own icecream cupcake!
Thanks for the idea! My little girl is turning 6 this summer and has chosen a “Fancy Nancy” party, theses will be perfect, she says they look very fancy, lol.
Aww ~ that’s so sweet! I’m glad she thinks they’re ‘fancy’!
~ Heidi
I remember these from when I was a kid. With Mother’s Day also being my birthday on Sunday, I think my kids and I will make these together. Thanks for the recipe!
Aww ~ Happy Birthday *and* Happy Mother’s Day Catie!!
~ Heidi
My mom use to make these for many a birthday parties! I remember helping her make them for my 7th birthday party! So fun, can’t wait to make them with my twin 7year olds!
oh no! I wish I read this site BEFORE making my cupcakes! I made them for tomorrow….! I hope the cones don’t get too soggy… I just won’t cover them today so that they will have air… maybe if I put them back in the oven tomorrow for a few minutes.. that would help crisp them again if needed?
I made these, but to make them even fancier, I stuck a dried off maraschino cherry on top and melted chocolate almond bark in a ziploc, cut the tip off and drizzled chocolate all over the tops. BIG hit!!!
