Well, it’s just a simple way to keep your needle handy while you work!
Thanks to super strong magnets, you can transform old buttons, pretty enamel pins, or even necklace charms into lovely little needle keepers!
No more lost or dropped needles, and no need to hold them in your mouth anymore! 🙂 You know what I’m talking about.

What Kind of Magnets are Used for Needle Minders?
For the best needle minder magnet strength you’ll want to use neodymium magnets.
Not only are they extraordinarily strong and slim, but they have a nice smooth and slick finish and aren’t prone to leaving a residue like other magnets can.
Magnetic Needle Minder DIY – Supplies Needed
Here’s what you’ll need to round up…
- Button, Enamel Pin, or Lightweight Necklace Charm
- 2 Small Neodymium Magnets
- E6000 Glue
How to Make a Needle Minder:
You won’t believe how easy needle minders are to make!
No need to buy an expensive one, when you can make your own!
Here’s what you’ll do…
1. If using a charm or a pin, you’ll want to snip off anything extra like the sharp back of your pin or holder ring of your necklace charm using strong hand snips (designed to cut through metal).
2. Then, take one Neodymium magnet and glue it to the back of your button, pin, or necklace charm using E6000 glue.
3. Allow it to dry completely overnight.
4. The next day, test your magnet to make sure it’s securely affixed.
5. If it needs more glue, you can add it now.
6. Or if it feels secure, then you can begin using your needle minder!
See… I told you this was EASY!
How to Use Needle Minder
Place your needle minder on top of your fabric, and place a second magnet below it on the back side of the fabric.
The magnets will connect together to hold your needle minder in place while you work.
Then, whenever you need to take a break to swap out threads, or pause your project, simply store your needle on top of your magnetic needle minder.
You’ll never lose your needle again! Woohoo!
