Shea Butter Uses for Skin

A BIG thank you to Better Shea Butter for sponsoring today’s post: Shea Butter Uses for Skin and Hair!

When it comes to taking care of my skin and hair, I’m always on the hunt for all-natural products. Over the years, I’ve actually gone through my bathroom and replaced products one by one with better natural alternatives. And one of my absolute favorite products is shea butter!

Now when it comes to shea butter, you’ll want to make sure you use a premium Grade A product that’s 100% raw and unrefined, like this organic shea butter! It’s loaded with vitamins, and has such a nice, earthy scent.

There are so many AMAZING shea butter uses for skin and hair… and it’s by far my favorite moisturizer! Here are 10 of my favorite ways to use shea butter for at-home beauty treatments…

Shea Butter Uses For Skin and Hair

Are you ready to put your shea butter to use? Check out all of these creative uses for Shea Butter…

#1: Tame Your Hair

When it comes to wild hair, mine can be the wildest! I’ve got long hair that sometimes just has a mind of its own. Plus, thanks to my hot styling tools, hair coloring and living in the sunny desert, it can dry out FAST. That’s why I love using shea butter as a hair tamer! Once a month, I like to give my hair some extra TLC with a luxurious deep conditioning treatment. Here’s what I do…

Shea Butter Deep Conditioner DIY: Wash your hair as normal, then apply raw shea butter to your hair {just like you would conditioner}, all the way down to the ends of your strands. Let the shea butter soak in and moisturize your hair for 10 minutes, rinse it out completely, then style your hair as normal.

#2: Moisturize Delicate Skin

For whatever reason, I just so happen to be the queen of sensitive skin. I’m not sure why, but it just is what it is. So that means when it comes to moisturizers, I steer clear of the highly perfumed lotions… you know, the ones with all of those ingredients you can’t even pronounce. That’s why I’ve come to LOVE shea butter as a moisturizer.

I don’t use it on my face, but it does such an amazing job at trapping moisture in your skin, like those rough dry elbows, knees, arms and legs.

How to Use Shea Butter as Moisturizer: Simply rub pure, unrefined shea butter between your fingers to soften, then smooth over your dry skin.

#3: Soothe your Eczema

Now when it comes to eczema, moisturizing is the name of the game. The itching eczema causes can make you feel crazy at times… trust me, I know. And so many products seem to dry your skin out even more.

That’s why when my eczema surfaces it’s itchy ugly head, shea butter is my go-to for quick relief! It does such a wonderful job of nourishing and moisturizing my skin, smoothing out those rough patches, and settling down the inflammation.

How to Use Shea Better for Eczema: After your bath or shower, pat your skin dry with a towel, then immediately apply shea butter to affected areas to lock in moisture and protect your skin. Just be sure to avoid using on your face, as it may lead to breakouts.

#4: Moisturize Your Cuticles and Nails

Shea Butter for Nails

Could your cuticles and nails use a little TLC? Hang nails, dry cuticles, and brittle nails are often caused by a lack of moisture on and around your nails. That’s why shea butter is the perfect partner for your nail and cuticle care routine!

How to Use Shea Butter for Nails and Cuticles: Massage pure, unrefined shea butter directly onto your nails and cuticles every night before bed to moisturize cuticles and nourish nails!

#5: Make Your Lips More Kissable

Shea butter does an amazing job of locking in moisture… even on your lips! So whether you’re lips are dry and chapped, or you just want to keep them smooth and kissable, reach for your shea butter to moisturize your lips!

How to use Shea Butter for Lips: Apply shea butter to your finger, then rub into your lips every morning and night to help keep lips smooth.

#6: Scare Away Bugs + Calm Your Bug Bites

Nothing beats a relaxing day out by the lake or in the woods, right? That is until those bugs start swarming. Well guess what… bugs aren’t really too fond of shea butter.

Shea Butter for Bug Bites Tip: Before you head out to the great outdoors, make sure you’ve moisturized your skin with shea butter! And if you happen to forget to apply it before you leave the house, you can still use it to calm those pesky bug bites later! Simply apply shea butter straight to the bite and rub it in to help calm the itching.

#7: Soothe Razor Burn

There’s nothing more painful than razor burn on your legs, right? Well, shea butter also happens to do a great job at settling down those little red bumps! It’s so soothing, and the perfect way to calm your irritated skin!

How to use Shea Butter for Razor Burn: Simply apply shea butter directly to irritated area once per day until skin calms down.

#8: Smooth Your Stretch Marks

The miracle of childbirth is nothing short of amazing, but those pesky stretch marks aren’t such a fun souvenir, right? Well, did you know shea butter can even help reduce the appearance of stretch marks and scars? Yes, please!

How to Use Shea Butter for Stretch Marks: Start by gently exfoliating the skin around your belly and sides. Then massage shea butter over your stretch marks 2 – 3 times per day to help them fade. You should start to see results after one month.

#9: Repair Cracked Heels

Have you ever suffered from dry, cracked heels? Ouch! Severely dry skin, certain sandals, or standing for extended periods of time can often be the cause, but did you know that shea butter is a great tool for repairing your heels?

Moisturizer for Cracked Heels and Feet: Before you head to bed, simply apply pure, unrefined shea butter to the bottom of your feet and heels, gently massage into your skin, and cover up with cotton socks to lock in the moisture.

#10: Make Your Own Whipped Body Butter

Shea Butter Uses

Another fun way to use shea butter is to make your own luxurious Whipped Body Butter! It’s such a dreamy, natural moisturizer… and takes only 4 ingredients and a few minutes to make!

This Jasmine Body Butter Recipe will give you step by step instructions to make your own moisturizer. And you can even make some extras to give out to friends and family as sweet little gifts in a jar!

Love that shea butter works on hair too. I recently started using hair dye and my hair has become dry and brittle. I have trying all sorts of stuff to keep my hair moisturized. Will try if “unrefined shea” butter works. Thanks for sharing the information.
