How to Make Shoes More Comfortable
When it comes to fashion, I’m all about looking fabulous without breaking the bank… or my feet!
Oh you know what I’m talking about… remember those outrageously spectacular shoes that had you hobbling for days after an evening out?
Well guess what – you don’t have to sacrifice style for comfort once you know how to make your shoes more comfortable!
Whether you’re looking for ways to make your shoes more comfortable when standing, or how to end the day with happy feet when walking all day, I’ve got just the thing!
Trust me… I’ve spent years finding simple tips and tricks to keep my feet comfy with fashionable shoes, and can’t wait to share these tips with you so you can pamper your feet, too!
So are you ready to learn how to make shoes more comfortable? These 10 easy tips and tricks are such a game changer!
Here’s what you need to do…
#1: Know Your Correct Width & Size
This may sound obvious, but did you know that our shoe size can actually change over time? It’s true!
Whether your feet have grown a little with each pregnancy, or they’ve just flattened out after living in flip flops for so many years, it’s important to take the time to check your size again.
Simply head to a local shoe store, find the foot measuring device, and measure each of your feet.
You may even find one foot is slightly larger than the other, and that’s okay.
If they are close in size, try sizing up to fit the larger foot, and go from there.
#2: Pamper Your Heels with Extra Cushion
Are your favorite pair of shoes acting like a ‘pain in the heel’? 🙂 These Under Heel Gel Cushions are for you! I love their slim and discreet design, and how they add so much comfort to each step!
Not only do they help absorb shock and provide cushioning at heel strike, they help prevent cracked heels, too!
#3: Opt for Comfy Flats or Kitten Heels
Another simple trick to make your shoes more comfortable, is to simply opt for flats or kitten heels whenever you can.
I know stiletto heels are gorgeous, but save them for your fancy nights out on the town. Kitten heels, typically between 1″ – 2″ in height, can be elegant and comfortable at the same time!
Whether you’re wear them to work, or out for coffee with your girlfriends, they’re the perfect compromise to dress up without putting as much pressure on your feet as higher heels.
#4: Support the Balls of Your Feet in Heels
Heading to a ball? Don’t forget about the balls of your feet! 🙂 Seriously, though… these Ball of Foot Gel Cushions are amazing!
Any type of heel has the tendency to put pressure on the balls of your feet, and these provide cushioning while keeping your feet from sliding forward at the same time. They’re even reusable from shoe to shoe!
#5: Prevent Blisters Before They Start!
There’s nothing worse than finding yourself with blisters after a long day of walking. Trust me… I know! During my trip to Rome, after the first day of walking miles and miles in cute shoes that weren’t made for walking, I found myself with painful blisters on both feet.
The crazy part was we were there for 9 more days. So yes… I hobbled around the cobble stone streets of Rome for a week and a half. Ouch!
I even missed out on seeing the Roman Forum because my feet hurt so bad. SO not worth it! That was before I found out about this AMAZING Blister Preventer Balm.
So what’s blister preventer balm? Simply apply to your feet and heels where they rub on your shoes, and prevent those blisters before they ever start!
Basically, it forms and invisible barrier that helps reduce all of that rubbing and irritation.
Plus, it’s the perfect size to toss in your purse so you’ll always have it handy. You know what I’m packing on my next trip to Italy!

#6: Wear Moisture Wicking Socks When Working Out
If you’ll be working out, don’t forget to wear comfortable, moisture wicking socks.
Moisture wicking socks do a great job at absorbing sweat, which can help your feet slide around less inside your shoes… which can also help to prevent blisters. Win-win!

#7: Always Add Arch Support
Another quick tip is to simply add some arch support to your existing shoes.
When you properly support your arches, you can help reduce the pressure and stress that is placed on your feet when standing and walking. I try to add arch support to my shoes as often as I can, and I absolutely LOVE these Energize Ultimate Comfort Insoles!
With a flexible arch, soft heel support, and shock absorption, they make SUCH a difference!
#8: Consider Using Shoe Stretchers
Are your shoes simply too tight or too narrow in the toe box? Consider using shoe stretchers! I picked up a pair of these last year, and have used them to stretch out so many different pairs of shoes in just the right spot. They really are a game changer!
#9: Loosen Them Up With Your Hair Dryer!
Now if you have genuine leather shoes that are feeling a bit too tight, another way to stretch them out is with heat from your hair dryer!
Simply set your blow dryer to warm (not hot), and aim the heat towards the part of the shoe you want to stretch… making sure to keep it several inches away from your shoe while blowing.
After a few minutes, turn the dryer off, place some socks on your feet, and walk around and wear your shoes for the next hour or so to break them in to their new looser size.
How easy is that?!?
#10: Change Into Cozy Slippers When You Get Home… and Go Put Your Feet Up!
And finally… once you get home, it’s time to pamper your feet with your favorite pair of slippers! Slip off your shoes, slip on your slippers, and go put your feet up! It’s officially time to relax, unwind, and give those feet a rest.
