#1: Make a List of Everything That’s Making You Feel Stressed

The first thing you can do is simply make a list of everything that has you feeling stressed out today. Go on… just take a few minutes right now to write down each situation that has you anxious.
#2: Analyze Your List One-By-One
Now that you’ve made your list… it’s time to take a good hard look at. We can’t control everything, but we can control some things, including how we respond to situations. So take some time to look at each item on your list and ask yourself these questions…
- Is this something I can control?
- If this is in my control, what steps can I take to make this situation less stressful?
- If this is out of my control, how can I respond differently to feel less stressed?
#3: Don’t Make Other People’s Problems Your Problems
When stressful problems start piling up faster than we can cope, it’s important to ask yourself: “Are these even my problems?”
It’s easy to take on more than we can handle, but making other people’s problems our problems can simply be too much. Oh I know we want to fix it all, but sometimes the most helpful thing we can do is let our loved ones problem solve and navigate through their challenge, while we offer support, a listening ear, and a hug!
#4: Slow Yourself Down
Now it’s time to simply… slow yourself down! Sometimes we get going at a pace that honestly just isn’t sustainable. So take some time today and slow down with some of these simple methods…
- Put down your phone
- Stand up and stretch
- Take some slow, deep breaths
- Spend some time on your favorite hobby
- Watch the sunset tonight
#5: Go Take a Walk in Nature
It’s time to get outside! Whether you’re hitting the hiking trails or just heading out for a walk in your own neighborhood, taking a walk in nature can be so refreshing! Take some more big, deep breaths while you walk, listen to the birds, notice the flowers, watch the trees blowing in the breeze, and feel that stress just melt right off of you.
#6: Get Lost in a Good Book
When was the last time you took some time out of your day to sit down, relax, and read a book? Taking just 30 minutes a day to get lost in a good book can be so relaxing!
Reading doesn’t have to be expensive, either. There are SO many ways to access amazing books for FREE and cheap! Wondering where to get started? Go check out my favorite ways to Save Money on Books and eBooks!

So many fantastic ways to manage stress. Reading is one of my favorite. When the pandemic hit I worked reading into my morning coffee and lunchtime breaks as well as at bedtime. I bought a Kindle years ago and have always downloaded books from the library. Free is a beautiful thing! Nature walks is another one of my favorite ways to take a break. Happy New Year Heidi!
