Now… for the lavender bows ~ I’ve got a brand new step-by-step tutorial for you!
They’re seriously cute, so thrifty, and easy to make! {triple yay!}
What You’ll Need:
- Grosgrain ribbon {3/8″}
- Alligator Clip {like this one}
- 5/8″ Smooth Ribbon
- Hot Glue Gun
- Pretty doo-dads for embellishing!
What You’ll Do:
- Glue 3/8″ ribbon to alligator clip, so you’ve got a cute little clippie to use as the base. {go here for step-by-step instructions}…
- Cut 3 pieces of 5/8″ ribbon into these sizes: one 5 1/2″ long, one 4″ long, and one 1 1/2″ long
- Glue the two longer pieces into two separate loops, like this…
- Glue the larger loop onto the top of the clippie, just like this…
- Place a small dot of glue on the inside center piece of the loop, then press the top down, so it will look like this…
- Now grab your smaller loop, and glue that on top of the clip {with just a small dot of glue in the center}, just like this…
- Just like we did above… now place a small dot of glue near the inner base of the loop, and gently press the top down, like this…
- Now grab your little flat piece. This we’ll glue right around the center, with both ends hiding underneath the top of the clip. Start like this… then just wrap it tightly around, and glue the other side where the ends meet {on the inside of the clip}…
- It’s getting CUTE!!!
- Now go grab a pretty doo-dad {because doo-dads are pretty!}…
- I found a set of four lil’ doo-dads for around $2 at Jo-Ann’s {near the ribbon}. Now, go glue your pretty little embellishment to the top middle piece of the bow…
- All done ~ wasn’t that easy?? Now… go make some pretty little clippies and bows of your own!
- These might make pretty little Easter accessories… or fun Easter basket surprises!!

Awesome, great looking and not to hard to make. At least it seems not hard to make.
Great for daughters. Or maybe as a homemade gift. Quite unique.
I can’t find the clips. Michaels and AC moore do not carry that kind
Sallys has 100 for 5.29
Hi Paula ~ yes… you can also find them at Sally Beauty Supply {like Amber mentioned}, or also on Amazon here: http://tinyurl.com/alligator-clip
Hope that helps!

You can purchase those clips at a beauty supply store like Sally’s.
try sally’s beauty supply i think you can get a box of 100 for 5 dollars or less
Those are adorable Heidi! Great job! I’ve started getting some of the materials already but have a few more things to get so I can start making these cute clips myself. Thanks for sharing how easy it is!
Aww ~ thank you ~ they are so simple to make!!

Hope that helps!

Hobby Lobby has the clips as well
Great to know that Hobby Lobby stocks these clips. If I have a choice of places that carry the item I am looking for, I always choose the one with a 50% off coupon.
worked on a bunch last night, love it!!!!
ADORABLE!:) Thanks for the step-by-step!
Oh how cute. These make great gifts! I know because I got several as gifts for both my girls. Several have been lost along the way though. Thanks for the tute! It looks like it’s an undertaking I could handle.
You can also glue fake flowers to these clips (as above) and clip them on headbands or crocheted beanies. Great way to get an expensive looking hair decoration on the cheap that you can change with every outfit.
I am sewing Easter dresses for my granddaughters and made some of these hair clips to match their dresses!! I can’t wait to see them all dressed up and ready for church! Thank you for sharing this easy to follow project.
You’re very welcome, Laura! So glad you enjoyed the project!!

so cute….how do you keep the ends from fraying?
Hi Maxine, to prevent ribbon ends from fraying… you can quickly run a lighter flame along the ends. {just be careful}
~ Heidi
you can buy some stuff call fray stop at most craft stores or Walmart rub it on the ends and they won’t fray
clear fingernail polish works also
Here’s a way to make the clips non-slip! In the isle with the contact paper, they have a rubber type that you can use in your drawers. (It looks like little circles all joined together.) Cut that 2 circles wide, and 8 circles long. Attach that to the top part of your clip, and now they won’t slip out!! ENJOY!!
I have to look for that. My girls had fine hair and I had trouble keeping the barrettes in their hair.
Where do you find the cute dragonflies/butterflies and other cute mini decorations for the alligator clips?
Hi Melissa ~ I found them at Michaels, Hobby Lobby, and Jo-Ann. I’d suggest checking your local craft store for some fun doo-dads to glue onto the clips. Hope that helps!
~ Heidi
I’m so excited to try these!! I’m pregnant and I want to make these for my daughter!
Anybody know of a place to buy a clip to attach to shoes/sandals? Or know of a tutorial? Thanks!
Hi Terry ~ here’s a tutorial on how to make flower flip flops… you can attach the flower using hot glue or even sewing it on.

What a clever idea. These would make great little gifts, too! Thanks for the great idea and info!!!!
Love this!!! So glad I found this site. Now I can make the hair pieces for my flower girls and jr bridesmaids to match the wedding.
Great ideas. I’ve been doing some on my own, but having the measurements simplifies things.
