How Do You Dry Orange Slices?
It’s actually SO easy! Your oranges will slowly dry out when placed in a low heat oven for about 2 hours.
How Long Will Dried Orange Slices Last?
When dried properly, they’ll stay gorgeous all season long! Or if you’re in a dry, less humid climate… you may even be able to use your original dried oranges again next year! Here in Arizona mine seem to just last and last. As they say in AZ… it’s a dry heat. 🙂
What You’ll Need to Dehydrate Orange Slices:
- 3 medium Oranges
- Baking Sheet
- Cookie Cooling Rack or Small Baking Rack
- Parchment Paper
- Non-stick Cooking Spray
- Paper Towel
- Sharp, serrated knife
How to Dry Orange Slices in the Oven:
You won’t believe how EASY these are to make!
Here’s what you’ll do…
Preheat oven to 200 degrees.
Trim down a piece of parchment paper to fit on your cookie sheet, and top with a cookie drying rack.
Spray your drying rack lightly with non-stick cooking spray.
Then slice your oranges VERY thinly. I ended up without 15 orange slices, or 5 per orange.
Pat dry each side of your orange slices with a paper towel, then transfer them one by one to the drying rack.
Bake for 1 hour, flip orange slices, then bake for 1 more hour.
After 2 hours, you’ll want to check your orange slices every 5 minutes to see if they’re done. They can burn easily, so you’ll need to pay close attention.
Mine were done around 2 hours and 30 minutes, but times can vary based upon different ovens and the width of your slices.
Once they are dried, remove from oven, leave on the rack, place rack on your kitchen counter, and allow to finish drying completely overnight.
The next day, simply add some twine and hang on your tree! Or if you’d like to spruce up your garland, you can add some fishing line and affix the orange slices to your garland.
Wasn’t that SO easy? Now go check out my favorite ways to use dehydrated orange slices…
How to Make Orange Slice Rustic Mason Jar Candle Holders:
One sweet and simple way to put your orange slices to use is to create some beautiful rustic mason jar candle holders!
Poke a small hole in your orange slice {I used a sharp knife}
Then thread a long piece of twine through the orange slice.
Wrap the twine around the upper threads of the jar several times, and knot it in the back.
I like to tuck the knot in underneath the other pieces of twine, and secure to the jar using a small piece of double sided tape or glue dots.
Then tuck some silk branch sprigs underneath the twine, behind the orange slice, and you’re done!
Gift Wrapping with Orange Slices:
Another fun idea is to add your dehydrated orange slices to your gift packaging! I like to tuck in some fresh rosemary sprigs too for a beautiful look!

How to Make Orange Slice Christmas Tree Ornaments:
Orange slice Christmas ornaments are another fabulous use for your dehydrated oranges! They’re so quick and simple to make, and look SO pretty on your tree, Christmas garland, or front door wreath!
You’ll start by poking a small hole in your orange slice using a sharp knife
Then either string some twine through and knot it at the end, or simply add an ornament hook. How easy is that?!?
Dried Orange Slice Garland
Whether you want to deck out your Christmas tree with an orange slice garland, or just string one along your kitchen window or hutch anytime of year… these gorgeous garlands add such a pretty pop of color, and are a cinch to put together!
Poke 2 small holes in each orange slice {I used a sharp knife}
Then thread a long piece of twine through the orange slices.
I like to leave my twine on the spool as I do this, to make sure I have enough before cutting it.
Once you’ve got your oranges all threaded onto the twine, cut the end, and tie a simple loop knot or bow at the end for easier hanging… or string an extra long garland around your Christmas tree!
How to Make an Orange Slice Fall Simmer Pot:
And finally, I love adding my dried oranges to my stovetop Autumn simmer pot! The scent is out of this world!

Jennifer writes: “Makes your house smell good without buying spray scents!!! You can put on wreaths or swag of eucalyptus or cedar tree swags for natural greenery in your home. Also string up cranberries and let dry over your fireplace!!! Smells great!!!”
