Allergy Relief Tips
Flowers are blooming, birds are chirping, the sun is shining, and noses are running! Yep… allergy season is officially here and in full swing! That’s why I’ve compiled this list of 10 Easy Allergy Relief Tips! It’s time to tackle those sneezes and sniffles head on with some simple little tricks that will make a world of difference.
So are you ready to fight back against your allergies this year?
With year round asthma and seasonal allergies, I’ve actually spent years trying to find simple ways to minimize the triggers. Here are some of my personal favorite allergy relief tips that have really helped…
#1: Use an Air Purifier Every Day!
My top tip is to run an air purifier every day in the rooms you spend the most time in. Air purifiers are such a game changer when it comes to filtering the air around you and creating a healthier environment!
I personally use the TOPPIN Comfy Air Bridge 4 True HEPA Air Purifier, and absolutely LOVE it! Not only does it look stylish in any room, but it’s so easy to use! It’s powerful, portable, has an easy touch top panel with user friendly controls, and is a great value.
I love that it has a little aroma tray with a built-in sponge, too. I just drop in some Lavender Essential Oils every few days, and it does double duty when it runs… acting as a natural air freshener for my home!
Every day while I work, I like to run it in the office next to my desk. It can actually clean the air in a 653 square feet room in just 20 minutes! With how FAST it works, I really don’t have to run it for long.
Then in the evening after I wrap up work, I like to move it to my bedroom and run it there to clean out the air before bedtime. There are 4 adjustable speed levels, so at night I run it on the lowest level and it’s so quiet. Then I just set the timer for an automatic 1 hour shutoff, so it turns itself off after I’ve fallen asleep. How easy is that?
It even has a three-color air quality indicator, so it lets me easily check the air quality at a glance. {Green = Good, Orange = Moderate, and Red = Unhealthy}. I love that feature!
So if you don’t already have an air purifier in your home, I highly recommend the Toppin!

#2: Drink More Water

We all know how important it is to drink water throughout the day, but did you know allergic reactions may be even stronger when you’re dehydrated? I don’t know about you, but that’s motivation enough for me to keep chugging my water all throughout the day.
#3: Get Up and Get Moving!

Yes, exercise is a great way to get your blood pumping, but did you know when your blood is pumping it can also help push allergens right out of your body? So let’s make it a goal to get up off the couch and go for a walk, do some light weight training, or find a fun new way to get moving this week. We’ll all feel so much better!
#4: Shower Off and Wash Your Hair

After you’ve spent some time out in the great outdoors during allergy season, it’s easy to become a walking pollen trap. 🙂 It gets on your clothes, on your skin, and yes… trapped in your hair. So even if you showered in the morning, do yourself a favor and hop in the shower again to do a quick rinse off or hair wash in the evening, too. It’s such a simple way to help you breathe easier all night long.
#5: Then Wash Out Your Nose!
Ew, right? It may sound a little strange, but cleaning out your nose can make a world of difference, and really reduce those sniffles! Consider using a saline nasal spray to rinse the allergens away that may be trapped up in your nose. It really works!
#6: Wash your Bedding Once a Week

An allergy doctor once told me how important it is to wash your bedding once a week in hot water. And not only will clean sheets and blankets make breathing easier at night… they also have a way of helping you sleep better, too. And don’t forget the throw pillows! Throw pillows can be hard to wash, so I use removable pillow covers on my throw pillows that I can easily take off and just toss in the wash.
#7: But Don’t Hang your Laundry Outside

Washing the pollen and dust away off your bedding and clothes is so important… but just remember to dry them inside during allergy season. Crisp and clean laundry hung on a line is always nice, but if you hang your clean laundry out to dry during allergy season it can just be a magnet for pollen, which is exactly what you’re trying to avoid.
It’s also a good idea to look around your yard and see if there are any plants or trees you’re allergic to that could be removed and swapped out with other varieties that aren’t triggers for you.
#8: Opt for Leather or Wood Furniture

Knowing your allergy triggers is so important. Whether it’s pollen, certain types of trees, pet dander, dust mites, or a combination of all of the above… once you know your triggers, you can work hard to reduce them.
Oh I know, I know… plush couches and padded fabric chairs can be so cozy, but those fabrics have a way of trapping allergens in your home. Instead, consider opting for furniture with smoother surfaces. And while you’re at it… you may even want to replace your curtains with blinds.
An allergy doctor once told me to replace my fabric couches and chairs with leather, and padded fabric chairs with wood. And let me tell you… they’re still incredibly comfortable. This one change has really helped minimize my allergies!
#9: Replace Carpets with Hard Floors, or Vacuum Carpets Often

Another tip that came straight from my allergy doctor was to replace as many carpets as you can with hard floors. Carpet has a way of trapping dust, and removing it from your home really will make such a difference! Plus, there are so many beautiful options right now… from pretty tiles to gorgeous hardwoods, or even tiles made to look like wood! I mean hey… now you have an excuse to remodel, and can blame your remodeling on health issues! 🙂
And if now is not the right time to pull out those carpets, just at least make sure your carpets and throw rugs are getting vacuumed often.
#10: Slow Yourself Down

We all know that stress can wreak havoc on our immune systems, but did you know that allergic reactions can begin in the immune system? When you strengthen your immune system you may actually help build up defenses against those allergy symptoms. So do whatever you need to do to slow down and keep your immune system strong! Here are some of my favorite ways to relax and unwind…
- Call a friend
- Exercise regularly
- Listen to music
- Relax in a warm bubble bath
- Read a good book
- Spend a day at the lake or beach
I hope those tips help! Taking the time to reduce your allergies is always worth it!

Hi,
All very helpful tips. So many people don’t realize the importance of staying hydrated especially when you are taking antihistamines. On #4, if you can’t or don’t like to wash your hair at night make sure to brush out your hair really well before you lay down.

Fantastic tips! A big one that worked for us was taking out all carpet and replacing with tile. We’re in Florida so that wouldn’t work for everyone, but basically the same result with wood or laminate flooring.
