Sharon says
Have ever removed the skin from the chicken legs before the first cook or before you put the sauce on? Skin doesn’t crisp up in the crock pot
Heidi says
Hi Sharon… yes, you can definitely remove the skin prior to cooking if you prefer. 🙂
Karen St. Germain says
Hi, Did you use any of the juices in your sauce? Or just used Bbq and Ranch to make the sauce?
Thank you
Karen St.
Heidi says
Hi Karen ~ you’ll discard all of the juices, and just use the BBQ/Ranch to make the sauce. Hope that helps! 🙂
Karen St. says
Removed all the juices and it came out delicious. Thank you.
Heidi says
You’re very welcome, Karen… so glad you loved it!
Jaclyn says
If cutting the recipe in half, (only using 2 lbs of drumsticks) would the cook time change?
Ed says
I wish she would answer you so me and others would know
Heidi says
I would assume it would cook slightly faster, Jaclyn… but I honestly haven’t tried it that way, so can’t tell you the exact cook times. If you do try it that way, let me know how it turns out!
Sylvia says
This is delicious and so easy. I used skinless chicken drumsticks.
Heidi says
So glad you enjoyed the drumsticks, Sylvia! The skinless drumsticks sound like a delicious swap, too!
Carie says
What pairs good as sides for this?
Heidi says
Hi Carie,
I like using one of these potato side dishes: https://thefrugalgirls.com/ultimate-potato-side-dish-recipes
Hope this helps ~ Heidi
Desa says
This looks and sounds delicious. I want to use my crockpot more often so it tends to be a spur of the moment thing. I read through other comments looking for a cook time for frozen chicken…any suggestions?!? Trying to prepare now…
Heidi says
Hi Desa ~ I just thaw the drumsticks overnight, or thaw just prior to cooking using the microwave. Hope that helps!
Kat says
Hi Heidi~
I have 9 bone in, skin on drumsticks and 5 bone in skin on thighs, can I cook all at the same time with skin up and layering them? Also, how long should I cook for, if doing both? I have the BBQ sauce, but can I use the Hidden Valley DIPS packets in ranch? This is what I have one hand so if I don’t have to go out that’s be a plus.
I want to make this today and look forward to you response. 🙂
Kat
Heidi says
Hi Kat ~ yes… the Dips packet will work just fine. I honestly haven’t tried layering that many pieces of chicken, while also mixing drumsticks with thighs. If I have that many pieces I usually just cook in 2 crock pots side by side. If cooking together like that, you’ll definitely need to keep an eye on the time and may need to extend it until all pieces are fully cooked. If you try it… let me know how it goes! 😉
Donna says
Wow, made this for dinner tonight. It was delicious and so so easy to make. Winner winner chicken dinner. LOL. Thanks for the recipe.
Heidi says
Aww ~ thanks so much for the sweet comment, Donna! So glad you enjoyed it! 🙂
A says
Can you cook it for 9 hours on low. As in I work – and will be leaving on till I get home
Brandy says
If using boneless, skinless breasts, 6 of them, and not in a single layer how long do you think it would cook for? Double the time?
Kirsten says
Was looking through the comments for an answer on how long to cook for frozen chicken…question wasn’t answered, if you have an answer that would be great! Wanting to try this out
Clara says
If the chicken is still frozen how long would you cook it? Thanks
Aimee says
When you put the chicken in the croc pot, do you add water to it?
Heidi says
Hi Aimee ~ no water is necessary, as the chicken will end up cooking in its own juices that it releases. Hope that helps! 🙂
Bridgett says
How about frozen chicken? Same time?
Robin says
I have cooked frozen chicken in slow cooker recipes on low for 8 hours while I am at work, and it works perfectly! Not this particular recipe though.
nicole says
I made this in the oven in a baking dish with drumsticks and it was so good!! (I put the sauce on the chicken when it was almost done then flipped them and added the rest of the sauce so it wouldn’t burn) Thanks for the post! Never would of thought to mix those 2 ingredients 🙂 Soo good!!
Heidi says
Aww ~ you’re very welcome, Nicole! Isn’t so simple and yummy? So glad you liked the drumsticks, and that it turned out great in the oven, too! 🙂
Autumn says
Have you ever tried to cook in the oven instead of the crockpot? If so what temperature did you put the oven on?
Yuisa says
Hi, Can I use actual ranch salad dressing instead of the packet?
Heidi says
Hi Yuisa ~ unfortunately using ranch salad dressing won’t work the same in this recipe. The dry packet is more of a seasoning blend that mixes deliciously with the BBQ sauce. Hope that helps!
Velma Siemens says
Is this recipe for only one layer of drumsticks? The pictures seem to indicate one layer.
Heidi says
Hi Velma ~ I typically cook the drumsticks in my 6 – 7 quart oval crockpots, so I can fit most in one layer. Sometimes I’ll stack a few on the top as a second layer, but most fit on the bottom. If stacking more on the top, you’ll just need to keep an eye on the chicken legs and may need to lengthen the cook time a bit. Enjoy!
Tori says
Is there a specific reason you suggest Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ sauce?
Heidi says
Hi Tori ~ Sweet Baby Ray’s is by far my favorite BBQ sauce, and pairs so nicely with the ranch mix for a powerful punch of flavor. 🙂
Maria says
How long should I cook it if I put it on low?
Heidi says
Hi Maria ~ if cooking on LOW, I typically double the time. So 6 hours on Low, drain juices, then add the sauce for an extra hour, or until done. All slow cookers cook slightly differently, so just keep an eye on it. Hope that helps!
issamar says
Is it okay If i use sweet and spicy BBQ sauce
Heidi says
Hi Issamar ~ I haven’t tried the Sweet & Spicy in this particular recipe, but if you do… let me know how it turns out! 😉
Erika says
Do u use a whole bottle of bbq??
Heidi says
Hi Erika ~ yes… you’ll use the entire bottle. ENJOY! 🙂
