Easy Heatless Sock Bun Curls
First… you’ll start by making a Sock Bun. A what?!? Don’t worry ~ it’s easy!
First, you’ll need a sock. These knee-high socks from Target worked like a charm for me!
Then… cut off that toe! {ouch!} I mean the sock toe, silly…
Now, roll it on up! Starting at one end, just slowly roll, and roll, and roll until you end up with a donut-look-alike!
After you’ve rolled it up, it will look something like this…
Sock Bun Curls Tutorial:
Now that you’ve made your sock bun, here’s what you’ll do…
- Pull your slightly damp hair into a high ponytail on top of your head at night. {you can spray water on your hair if it’s dry to dampen it up}
- Push the sock bun over your ponytail, and pull your hair straight up, then divide into two sections.
- Take one section around the outside of the sock bun, then loop it in through the inside and pull it through, and continue over and over rolling your hair around the sock bun until you’re out of hair. Try to use just one side of the sock bun for this section.
- Then repeat the same process for the other section of hair on the other side.
- In the morning, carefully unroll your hair from the sock bun, and style your pretty curls and waves! I like to add a few drops of Argan Oil to my hands and smooth it over my waves, to help tame any flyaways.
How easy is that?!? The results will vary, but my hair is long and crazy thick, and I love the pretty waves that came with nearly no effort.
Anything that lets me snooze the alarm clock 4 extra times in the morning is a dear friend of mine! Yes… I love you, Sock Bun!
Oh, and did I mention this is great for traveling, too? I packed my snazzy little sock bun on our recent trip to California, and loved having an easy {quick} way to add some curl to my hair on vacation!
Now… go give it a try tonight, okay? 😉
It may take some experimenting with how damp you’ll need your hair to start off with, what products {if any} you’ll want to use on it, etc.
After a few tries, you’ll start to find the perfect formula for your hair! Save time and have fun with your pretty Sock Bun Curls!!

I saw this post a few days ago, and have been wearing my hair either in a donut or curly ever since! I love it! Funny thing is that I have had a hair donut for about two and a half years, and didn’t have a clue what to do with it. Now I do! THANKS!!
