The following is a delicious Chewy Molasses Cookies Recipe and
guest post by Aimee at Its Overflowing ~ enjoy!!
Growing up, my absolutely FAVORITE cookies in the entire world were my mom’s Chewy Molasses Cookies Recipe. I loved the raw cookie dough, it used to be “no worries” to eat it and I may or may not let my three Sweet B’s indulge in dough from time to time ~ I’m not telling.
I loved the smell of them baking in the oven, and I LOVED how they melted in my mouth when they were fresh out of the oven. I’m sharing these special goodies with you today so you can share those same sweet memories with your sweeties, too!

Chewy Molasses Cookies Recipe
Gather your ingredients: flour, baking soda, ground ginger, cloves, and cinnamon, an egg, sugar, molasses and crisco (sounds scary, but truly crisco has improved over the years, it’s made of vegetable products and doesn’t have trans fats). Remember, this is a treat! It’s made with love to build sweet memories. It’s not a health food!
Put your crisco in a small pot and heat it on a burner…
…until it’s liquified. Then remove from the heat and cool.
Once cool, add sugar, molasses and an egg!
Mix WELL!
In your mixer: combine flour, spices and salt.
Add the molasses mixture to the flour mixture and mix until well combined. Chill your dough. {My mom says this step is important because it is key to soft and chewy cookies!}
Once chilled, form cookie dough into one inch round balls about two inches apart onto a greased cookie sheet.
Let each cookie ball take a dip in the sugar bowl.
Anything coated with sugar has to be good, right!!! This was always my favorite “job” when I was young!!!
Place the Molasses cookie balls back onto the cookie sheet then into the oven and cook at 375 for 8-10 minutes.
You may want to double your recipe! Your entire house will have a yummy, freshly baked cookies aroma and you’re sure to have precious little hands reaching up for more!!! Should you be disciplined enough to have extras, the dough can be stored in the fridge in an airtight container.
A plate of cookies in the family room where my three sweet B’s and their friends were watching the classic Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer Movie broadcast on CBS last night. And for the adults, cookies served with coffee (thanks Amy for letting us use your cup of coffee) or a spot of tea (for people like me who still haven’t taken a liking to the the most popular drink since the mid 15th century)!

Making gingerbread cookies with my mom and sister. The gingerbread men always were missing an arm, or the “king” looked like a blob with a backpack. And dad always wanted lots of the giant cookies (christmas tree or star) with loads of M&Ms on them. 🙂
