So… I sent the hubby to the store the other day on a mission ~ I needed roses. 😉
Seriously I did ~ the boys had a project for science, and needed to ‘dissect’ a rose!
Hubs came back with the most gorgeous bouquet, and guess what… he only paid $3.00!! {yep ~ he’s a keeper!}
In the floral department at the grocery store, he kept finding pricey flower arrangements, so he asked at the counter if there were any better deals {good boy!} ~ and the gal shared a tip I never knew… ‘Day Old Flowers‘!
Just like ‘day old’ bakery items, she said if the flowers aren’t sold right away, they go into a special case behind the counter, and can be sold at a BIG discount!
Now, you may already know this… but it was news to me, so I had to share!
I’m not sure if all stores do this, and it might be hit-or-miss with what you’ll find… but if you’re looking for a thrifty bouquet to brighten up your table for a special dinner or event ~ it never hurts to ask!
I’ve got even more frugally romantic ideas to share with you. Get ready to be romantic… on a budget…

Aldi’s also carries $3.99 bouquets, usually at or near the check-out. Some bouquets are all roses, others of various flowers and usually contain a rose or two. Fresh supply generally arrives on Mondays (at least in our city), so buy as close to then as possible, as they don’t last as long as those from a florist.

To save when sending a long distance arrangement.
Go online find a local florist to where you want the flowers to go.
Call them directly! This will save the wire charge, plus you only pay their delivery charge. Use a credit card over the phone. And you get to find out exactly what the florist has.
BUT never wait until the last minute, do this several days to a week ahead.
I had a family who called me in NJ from Ohio at every holiday!

That is how I am able to purchase flowers every week for myself. I go to the discount floral section at Krogers. They have beatiful floral arrangements under $5.

often they put them out with discounted pricing on them already. I’ve gotten a dozen roses at WalMart for $5. My local Kroger often has not just cut flowers but live plants that are greatly discounted. You just have to look for them.
