Chewy Molasses Cookies Recipe

Ingredients
  • ¾ cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ¼ cup molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups flour
  • ½ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 375 and grease a cookie sheet.
  2. Melt shortening in a pot, remove and cool.
  3. Add sugar, molasses, and egg; beat well.
  4. Combine flour, spices, and salt.
  5. Mix molasses mixture into flour mixture.
  6. Mix well and chill.
  7. Once dough has chilled, form into 1 inch balls, roll the balls in granulated sugar and place on a greased cookie sheet about 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 8-10 minutes.
  9. The cookies need to come out of the oven a little underbaked if you want them to be soft and chewy!
  10. Let the cookies cool before removing them from the pan.
