More Do-It-Yourself goodness! This year, I was determined to get to work on a homemade-yet-extremely-useful gift for my mother. We both shoot with a Nikon D5000 (you’ll find my photography of food and crafts over at Createlive) and had been working with fairly standard Nikon camera bags.  At the end of the day, however, those bags pose two problems. First, they’re not particularly glamorous. It felt like lugging around a huge, unattractive… diaper bag? Shouldn’t it feel badass to be shooting in downtown Chicago? Not when you’re carrying around a diaper bag (and if you’ve already got ONE diaper bag for its real purpose, hauling around a second one is definitely not exciting)! Second, the bags were total theft magnets. I can’t even keep track of how many people I know whose cameras have been stolen. Why does that surprise me when we carry around bags with NIKON or CANON written across the top?

From now on, I will carry a camera bag that screams neither “Steal me, I have $1,000 of equipment inside!” nor “Look, a diaper bag!”  No, sir. I pledge (ha!) to carry a bag that is attractive. Chic. Fabulous.

Unfortunately, most chic and fashionable camera bags will run you upwards of $200… until now. Do it yourself with this tutorial. I spent $35 on a purse from TJ Maxx and about $10 at Joann’s Fabrics buying foam and fabric.

Begin by attaching a marshmallow to each end of a toothpick… then let your creativity take over!

Pause… it’s time for a sample break!

Now back to work…

There you have it… it’s a marshmallow-house-igloo-dome-like contraption!

I am so excited to be guest posting here at Frugal Girls!  My name is Hayley from Welcome to the Mouse House and I can’t wait to share my feature with you!

Welcome back to my Felt Board Tutorial Series!  Previously, we have discussed How to Make the Felt Board  and I have also given you a downloadable template for Making Felt People and Clothing .

Now, let’s move on to some more shapes dealing with the Weather.  These would not only be great just for home use, but also for teachers to use at school or even for parents to use in their homeschooling classrooms!

Let’s begin!

Download and Print your Weather Templates HERE   AND HERE  (there are two pages to download and print for the weather templates)

Same as with the Felt People, gather your supplies:

Supplies Needed:

• Printed Templates
• Scissors
• Fabric Paint
• Paint Brushes
• Felt in various colors
• Sharpie Markers in fun colors
• Disappearing Marker (not necessary, but good to have!)

You will cut out all of your shapes from the templates I have provided above:

At this point, you can either use your markers to trace onto the felt or you can just cut, while holding the pattern piece:

Here is what the rainbow will look like after being cut out:

Now for the fun part… Painting!  You do NOT need to be an artist for this, trust me!  Have fun with it and remember that it is a toy for children and they won’t care if there are imperfections…. just enjoy the process!

Oh, and think back to grade school when we learned the colors of the rainbow:  ROYGBIV  (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet)

Let the fabric paint dry for at least 4 hours:

Continue on with the same method for all of your shapes.  Trace, cut, embellish!  You can either embellish with paint like I did with the cloud….

OR you can embellish with a colored Sharpie marker like I did with the sun!

LOOK!  I even added some “bling” to the snowflake!  Do whatever makes you happy!
