Where Am I??

Several of you girls have been asking me lately… ‘Where Are You??’

Well… I grew up in Washington State {just north of Seattle}.

Then one day we moved to Arizona for hubby’s job!   The first time I went to Arizona was… actually when I was on the plane moving to Arizona!

The man sitting next to me on the plane thought that was just a bit odd.

Then again, he also thought my baby’s BIG fascination with attempting to toss his binky and make it bounce off the poor man’s bald head was also a bit odd.  {these things are just a little relationship hindering, if ya know what I mean! ;) }

It’s now been almost 8 years here in the desert!  Yes… it’s hot.  Yes… I seriously get cold when it drops anywhere below 75. {pathetic, I know}  But… there are just some things I’ll just never grow tired of ~ like crazy-cool saguaros:

… and off-the-chart-sunsets…

… and 124 grapefruit growing in my backyard

… and the fact that here in the wild west, it’s still acceptable to put your kids in jail!  {who knew?!?}  Well… not quite, but don’t my babies look just downright pitiful??  {truly, a sad sight!}

The one thing we did before we moved, was made sure to sell ALL of our snow gear, boots, and winter clothes!  Then one day we realized we were just a 2 hr drive from Flagstaff… and it’s the perfect little day trip… and we love it… and there are big beautiful trees that remind us of Washington… and it SNOWS!  {oopsy!}  So… we had to buy snow gear, boots, and winter clothes {again}.  Now that’s not-so-frugal, but yep ~ these things happen! ;)

Now… it’s your turn to tell me where YOU live!

Have you all been having crazy cold weather still?  Leave a comment & share!

I live in the good ol’ south….Aiken, South Carolina!!

  2. Rose says:

My family and I live in University Place, WA (South of Seattle between Tacoma and Lakewood). My husband is originally from the Phoenix area and after being here for over 10 years we are contemplating either moving to Arizona or somewhere in the South. I grew up in the Bay Area (Berkeley to be exact) and have never dealt with extreme heat. I am of Irish decent and am very pale. I am kind of worried about dealing with and getting used to the heat. How long did it take you to adjust to the heat there in Arizona and was the change hard being acclimated to Washington weather??

    • Heidi says:

Hi Rose ~ yes… coming from Seattle to Phoenix was a BIG change weather wise. They’re kind of like two extremes! I absolutely love the sunshine, but it did take several years before we really got used to the warmer weather. And for that matter… I’m not sure I’ll ever really be used to the 100′s. ;)

  3. We’re here in Maryland! Annapolis to be exact. The weather has been jumping around all over the place lately! We’ve had “warm days” (around the mid 70s, not as warm as I’d like) and cold days (low 30s), bright and sunny weather and crazy thunder and lightening storm weather. To be honest, the weather changes are giving me whip-lash;) Our coldest day this year was in the low 20s. I know I’m complaining now but when it gets to be in the 100s and humidity so high you can drink the air I’m going to wish for cooler weather. lol!

Thanks for showing us your area!:)

    • Heidi says:

That’s crazy weather, Bridget!! I know exactly what you mean about enjoying the cold before the 100s come back for a visit! ;)

      ~ Heidi

  5. Stephanie says:

It look like Ga might be next where we will be moving too but we will see but at least it’s warmer over there then Ok( I think & hope) But we miss Az & the warmth! But the hubbie’s job pays the bills but we will be back in Az one day.

  6. Shelle A says:

I’m also in Arizona…. Mesa to be exact. I’m from Wisconsin, moved here in my 30′s. The day I left WI, it was -10 with the windchill. OMG.

Been here 7 years so far, hoping to move to Wyoming next but dang, that will be COLD :)

    • Betsy says:

Wyoming is cold. That is where I grew up. What part are you hoping to move to?

      • Shelle A says:

Hoping to either go to Casper, Cody or the Riverton area. I’m leaning toward Cody or Casper. I don’t want to be THAT far from a Target store, LOL.

Told the hubby I’d like to move by the time the laundry detergent stock runs out (approx 2.5 years). We need time to get the plan together, finances and HOPE the housing market rebounds a bit…

  7. I started in Phoenix and last there a week or so, then I was adopted and moved to Oregon. Grew up in the same house until I went to college and travelled all over, going back to Phoenix frequestly to visit my aunt (she is the one who arranged my adoption- thanks Aunt Pat!)Went to college at Oregon State and then joined the Army. So since then I have lived in Alabama, Germany, Alabama, Texas, Hawaii, Washington State, Indiana and now Iowa since 96. I had been here one time… for a weekend visit. Sort of cracks me up came here due to my ex husbands family and I am still here and he is not. it has been a great palce for the kids to grow up and I love about 9-10 months a year. But usually about Jan and February, I wonder why I live here. But since today is march 1st, the sun is shining and no ice, I remember!

  8. Christina White says:

  10. Stephanie says:

Third generation Arizonan (and proud of it). ARIZONA it’s the place to be.

  11. Heather says:

Originally from Maryland, I now reside all over the world with my husband and our five children. We move when the Army tells us to. Sometimes I miss having roots and Maryland still feels like home but for now we’re mobile.

  12. Michelle R says:

So I moved from Spokane to North of Seattle. To Phoenix and then back north, back to Phoenix and eventually back to Spokane, lol.

    • Heidi says:

That’s too funny, Michelle! My aunt and uncle have an apple orchard over in Spokane… Eastern WA is beautiful! ;)

  13. I live in Collinsville.Illinois just 15 min. from St.Louis I lived in Nebraska for a while but Im glad to be home. the weather is always changing and I like that.

  14. We live in the beautiful state of Kentucky!! I am originally from Long Island, NY, but have been in the Bluegrass State for 34 years :) We get the best of both worlds around here. It gets hot in the summer..with a lot of humidity :( …and it gets super cold in the winter. This winter we have had our fair share of snow like most of the country! We are so close to so many amazing cities..Louisville (where my husband and I lived for 10 years), Lexington, Nashville, and only a couple of hours from Indianapolis. We love it here!!

  15. Jennifer Gonzalez says:

I live in NE Tennessee….Johnson City to be exact :o )
Originally from Virginia though. I love living where there is a change of seasons. (so I don’t get bored…lol)

  16. Lynn says:

I live in Federal Way WA. I am about 30 mins south of Seattle. I have lived here for the last 23 years. 2/3 or my life :) I am leaving on vacation this Friday to go to Bullhead City AZ to visit my grandma and then a few days in Vegas with my sister. I am looking forward to the sunny weather, but can’t imagine living anywhere other than the Pacific Northwest.

  17. Lisa Rankin says:

I grew up near Belpre, OH and when I got married moved to a wonderful little community called Palmer Square, OH. (17 miles from where I grew up but seemed like a world away.) We have all the seasons which I’m so grateful for, an awesome school system and everyone pretty much knows everyone and if they don’t know you they know someone who does.

  18. Betsy says:

I grew up in Star Valley, Wyoming. One of the coldest places on earth I believe. We used to have snow from the first of October to May sometimes. But it’s a little different now. Sometimes it doesn’t last that long:) There is usually at least a week of 30 below 0. That makes for a long winter. I live in Cache Valley, Utah now, where it’s a little warmer, but not much :) We still have about 8 inches of snow. It’s a great place to be though!

  19. kat says:

living in south eastern Massachusetts. where one day its 65 and the next day its 15.

    • Kristin H says:

I can feel your pain! In Minnesota the only time you can hang your coat up is in August.

      • kat says:

we want out of here. i want to move to the mid west Montana or somewhere around there. but until the job market gets more stable we are staying put. with two children under 5 we can’t take a risk of moving all the way out there and not having jobs.

although if my husband has his way we would move some where nice and sunny all year round. but i wont give up my snow..lol

  20. Laurie says:

I’m in CT…a bit north of New Haven. We have had a crazy winter with more snow than I have ever experienced. I’ve lived here all my life. I don’t enjoy the cold winters, but I do like that we experience all four seasons. My favorite is spring. Hurry up spring!!
