I've had that problem with the oreo truffles, and they sell this little two pronged plastic fork looking tool by Wilton, you can get it at Michaels, and most craft stores. It helped with the mess a lot!

This is the exact recipe for Cake Pops....minus the choc chips but I suppose that you could put them in for texture. You make the mixture the same except that you roll them into balls and place them on lollipop sticks and then put them in the freezer for about an hour to make sure they are set and dip them in either melted chocolate or the dipping stuff you get at the cake store. you can shape them like characters or plants or flowers and then change the colors of the dipping stuff. They are great since you can make them for all kinds of occasions!

I just wanted to save this recipe rocks and yes it can be messy but I figured out the easiest way to do make them. After I rolling out the balls I put them in the freezer while I rolled another tray out. After taking them out of the freezer I used a fondue fork by sticking them in the middle then I used my fingers to push them onto the wax paper after doing a few I spooned a little bit of chocolate on top to cover where my fingers n the fork were then I put the decorative stuff on. This made it so simple. Eventually I conned my husband into helping. I made chocolate cake with chocolate frosting dipped into milk chocolate topped with crushed candy canes and some with holiday sprinkles. Then I made spice cake with cream cheese frosting dipped into white chocolate sprinkled with a walnut pecan mixture. They were a hit I gave some away with Christmas gifts (also made chocolate covered pretzels, chocolate covered raisins, mexican wedding cakes and peanut butter cups)took them to holiday parties and well ate too many!! All and all making these instead of buying stocking stuffers cost me less than $2 a person! I have pictures I can email if you would like!!

I make these all the time! Try it with strawberry cake/strawberry frosting, or orange cake/vanilla frosting, or my favorite - butter cream cake/cream cheese frosting, this last one's not as sweet. Adding a couple of teaspoons of shortening to the almond bark thins it too.
It gets easier the more you do it!

Ok, these are actually a recipe that I found for something called a cake pop! you can roll these into balls and freeze them a little to set them and then stick them on lollipop sticks! you can even use a rolling pin and cut out 3 different size circles and make 3 tiers for a wedding cake and decorate as you would a wedding cake and use them as place settings or favors at the wedding tables! you can make them into almost any shape and they go SO fast at school bake sales! especially if you color them school colors or even in the shape of the mascot! have fun!

I put toothpicks in my cake balls and then put them in the freezer for just alittle while then when I take them out they're solid and firm on the toothpicks and they're easy to dip into the hot chocolate. Also I only take a few out of the freezer at a time because then they thaw out and they slip off the toothpicks when I dip them into the chocolate. After I dip them I stick the toothpicks with the dipped cake ball on top into a piece of styrofoam and then put them back into the freezer to get firm...maybe just 1/2 hr and then I take them out of the freezer and put them into a plastic tupperware container for everyone to eat.
The chocolate chips are good but if you get Almond Bark" or the generic brand the chocolate melts alittle better and it's not as thick and when the Almond Bark dries it's kind of chrisp on the outside and it's really good.
Almond Bark is not made of almonds...that is just the name of the product. You can get the generic form and it's just as good. You can get it in either vanilla or chocolate.

Hi Michelle ~ yes... if you're short on time, you could place in the freezer for a bit. I just place the crumbled cake/frosting mixture in the refrigerator for several hours, and that helps it solidify and be less crumbly too. Enjoy eating your tasty treats! :)

Just made these and the kids had a blast. Very messy though! Maye put the balls in the freezer for a bit before dipping into the chocolate?? They crumbled and fell apart with the thickness of the chocolate. Kids didn't care though!

These look fantastic! To avoid a mess, you might want to add a step and insert lollipop sticks into the truffles and firm them up and just hold the stick to dip them in. Thanks so much for the recipe!

Hi Shonte ~ it did get a bit messy, but I just dipped them in with my fingers and tilted them until they were all covered. You can then use a spatula to cover any bare spots on the truffle.

Hope this helps!

How do you dip the balls into the chocolate without dropping them? I seem to make more of a mess trying to get them equally covered in chocolate :( How do I do this so they are pretty and covered in chocolate?
